Book Reviews of Behind the Smile: My Jurney Out of Postpartum Depression

Book Review: FEEL HER PAIN!!
Summary: 1 Stars

This book is nothing more than a Victim Seeker's Bible. Are we supposed to feel sorry for her? She is using a sickness for personal glorification and a reason to sell a book. I felt that this book was a big feel sorry for me ego trip and was disappointed because I thought it would have some interesting facts on postpardum depression.Boy,was I wrong.

Book Review: I loved this book
Summary: 5 Stars

I felt so much better after reading this book. Almost human. It's hard to explain to others why we just can't "snap out of it" when it feels our world is falling apart when it's suppose to be the happiest time in our lives as mothers. After reading "Behind The Smile" I felt like I wasn't so alone. I saw so much of myself in Marie's story. She reveals so much ,from early years leading up to her recent struggles. What's the saying, " I laughed, I cried". It was hard to put down.

Book Review: Wow! What an awesome and helpful book!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am truly impressed. Marie Osmond was very candid in this book. She revealed many very personal details about her struggle. While writing the book may have been cathartic for her, I think she revealed these details to help other women (more than anything). She is very successful in that effort! We are lucky she took the time in her busy schedule to write this book to help others!!! I am currently facing these issues myself. I found her book enormously helpful, interesting, funny, sad, moving, etc. I could relate to much of what she went through. I am so glad I bought this book. I have already recommended it to a friend of a friend who is also dealing with PPD. Having been diagnosed with manic depression following the birth of my 1st child 6 months ago, I really appreciated this book. Even though Marie was not diagnosed with manic depression, there was mention of it towards the end of the book (in Dr. Moore's section). If you are thinking about buying this book, do it. You won't regret it. I laughed and wept. I loved the coverage of alternative/integrative medicine and the appendix resources! Outstanding! There is even a section called "The Father's Experience of Living with Postpartum Depression" in Dr. Moore's part of the book. Believe me, my husband will read this book next. Couldn't put it down!!! It's awesome.

Book Review: I felt as though I were reading about me.
Summary: 5 Stars

I thought I was alone. That no one could ever feel the pain, sadness and loneliness I have felt. But, as I read each written word of Marie's story. I somehow found it comforting to know that I was not alone and that there is hope. I have always admired Marie and have been a fan since my teenage years. I am a private person also. But, now I have decided to seek help. Her book gave me the inspriation and the courage and the hope that I needed. Thank you, Marie

Book Review: A story of courage .... and hope!
Summary: 5 Stars

Very impressed with the amount of honesty related in the telling of her story. Marie Osmond doesn't attempt to hide behind that smile at all in this book, and I was deeply touched by her story. There is a great deal of information provided here -- both from Marie and the doctor who used a combination of healing processes to help her through it. I recommend this book to anyone who has experienced PPD, who is planning to give birth in the future so that you're aware of the signs, and to anyone who knows ANYONE who is a mom (past, present, or future!). A great read.
