Book Review: There are much better books and less polemic authors around.

It is no coincidence that the author is prominently featured on the website for Americans for Middle Eastern Understanding. This site, which specializes in vilifying Israel and the national liberation movement of the Jewish people, Zionism, found a natural friend in this author, a sworn enemy of Israel.
There are many good books on the history of Zionism and Israel. It is all too easy to condemn without any real understanding. In the case of Zionism the web is chock-full of lies and hateful material which would leave one believing that the only national liberation movement of the Jewish people is anything but praiseworthy.
This is one of those books.
Sefardic Jews( those Jews who hail from Mediterranean and Arab lands) were never forced to come to Israel. Many of them stayed behind. The Arabs were not exactly friendly to them. Today, the Sefardim, these same Jews, are the most pro-Zionist in all of Israel. There is a good reason. Israel has been a place where now, after many years, they have risen to high positions and are able to live as they could never have lived in their former lands.
It is never black and white. Ben Gurion was no saint. However, neither was he a devil as this book suggests.
Without him, we would never have such a strong and powerful nation, the State of Israel.
Howard Sachar,Alan Dershowitz, Martin Gilbert, are only three of several authors who can be counted on to tell the story of the State of Israel, Zionism and the rescue of the Jews of Mediterranean and Arab origin with any impartiality.
Probably my first choice for a great book would be The Siege by Conor Cruise O'Brien, an Irish diplomat who has done a wonderful job in producing a first-rate and truly accurate account of the rise of Israel and the realization of Zionism.
