Book Reviews of Betty Crocker's Best Bread Machine Cookbook: The Goodness of Homemade Bread the Easy WayBook Review: Easy to Use Bread Cookbook for Beginners Summary: 5 Stars
Betty Crocker's Best Bread Machine Cookbook says it all in the title. I found the book in the Library, checked it out twice, dreading the expiration date to return it and then found it on Amazon for keeps~ It has a great spiral binding, clear and understandable recipes for 1, 1-1/2 & 2lb loaves to match the bread machine capacity. Easy to follow instructions for us newcomers to create homemade, healthy bread & baked goods. I bake something different each time, they have all been delicious!
Book Review: Easy to follow recipes Summary: 4 Stars
I like the book and the recipes, which are easy to follow. There are a wide variety of really good recipes. The breads I've made so far have turned out well and it's true that they are designed for bread machines; just follow the recipe and your bread will turn out fine. I haven't found any to be "gourmet," but I guess there are other cookbooks for that. (Hint for those new to making bread: don't use water straight from your tap. It will ruin the yeast.)
Book Review: Every recipe is great in this book - great for bread machine beginners! Summary: 5 Stars
I borrowed a smaller paperback version of this book from a friend before buying this spiral/hardcover edition (this one has at least 3 additional sections, like the fruit & veggie loaves section, etc.). This is a great book for beginners with a bread machine, since I have found the recipes are hard to mess up. I had tried some other bread machine recipes that were bread machine-brand specific & they didn't work as well with my off-brand machine, but this book has recipes that have been tested & work in most all machines, so it was a great confidence booster! I have found that making the recipes on dough cycle, then separating the dough into two smaller loaves, letting them rise for 30 min under a towel, then cooking in the oven @350 for 20 min works out great, since then you can eat one & freeze one (or give one away to a friend), and it doesn't take as long to cook. This also makes for less crunchy crust than when you make it *in* the bread machine. My favorite recipes from this book are granola bread, Sally Lunn, vanilla sour cream bread, zuccini whole wheat, and the maple sweet potato bread. This is a great gift if you know someone who wants to get started with making bread at home--it not only saves money but is also a great healthy option!
Book Review: Excellent Book! I gained 5 pounds already! Summary: 5 Stars
I can't recommend this book enough. I have made about 5 recipes and not one was less then fantastic. Each recipe has been well tested and the if you follow the book (being careful with the measurements and ingredients) you are in for a treat!
Book Review: Excellent Illustrated Bread Book Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this book to make a couple of different types of bread and found it easy to read and follow directions. It is beautifully illustrated so you know what your results should be. I found the Mediterranean Herbed Bread to be wonderful with garlic butter on it and served with a plate of spaghetti. The other loaf I tried was the Dill Wheat which was good for sandwiches. I have done a little experimenting with the bread flour content. I have found that if you use a little regular flour with the bread flour it makes the loaves a little lighter and less dense. So far I have had good results with 3-1/4 cups bread flour + 3/4 cup regular flour for recipes that call for 4 cups of bread flour. Over all, I could not be more pleased with this book. It is hard cover and spiral bound so it stays open for easy reading.
