Book Review: ROMANTIC AND POIGNANT...THE LONGING IS PALPABLE...
Summary: 4 Stars

A terminally ill man falls in love with a famous turn of the century actress. The only trouble is that they are separated by a span of about seventy five years. What is a man to do? Why travel back in time, of course.

That is just what Richard Collier does in order to be with the beautiful Elise McKenna, the woman of his dreams. Or does he? Does he really travel back in time, or is it merely the delusion of a desperately ill man who seeks to find meaning for his existence? Does his tenuous hold on life in the present mirror his equally tenuous hold on life at the turn of the century? Is his death ultimately the only way for these unrequited lovers to be united, at last?

This is a beautifully poignant love story in which the longing the protaganists have for each other is palpable. A bittersweet sadness permeates the pages of this book, as Robert and Elise pass through life, each a shadow on the consciousness of the other. One only hopes that they find in the hereafter, what they were denied in this life.

This wonderfully imaginative and inventive book draws the reader into its fantastical web. A veritable page turner, it is a classic story of a love which will not be denied. Read the book, and then see the movie, "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. You will not be disappointed.

Book Review: Romance from Mackinac Island
Summary: 3 Stars

I read this book in 1979. I just visited Mackinac Island last weekend (the setting from the movie). Time does not dim the romance of this story. Please read it. Please visit Mackinac Island and try to get the theme music out of your head as you walk the same grounds as Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

Book Review: Romantic, sad ...very sad made me cry
Summary: 5 Stars

One of my favorite movies is Somewhere in Time so I was curious to see if the book was even better. I enjoyed the book immensely but did not like the whole idea of the man dying of a brain tumor from the start. From the beginning, you know this sad detail and it just makes you feel like, ok, so he's going to die anyway. I think if the author had left that part out, and just made the heroin a healthy man who has never found 'the one', the story would have been even better. Yet, I still loved this book and highly recommend it.

Book Review: Somewhere in Time was better.
Summary: 4 Stars

The author wrote this novel before he wrote the screenplay for Somewhere in Time. In writing the screenplay, he was able to modify the premise of the story somewhat, making it perhaps less realistic but much more romantic. It's a good book, but the movie was better.

Book Review: The movie followed the book quite well.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have a special place in my heart for this story as I was working on Mackinac Island, MI(where the movie was filmed) that summer of '79. I also met my bride that summer as we both worked on the island. We were there during the entire shoot. I then read the book after seeing the movie and was satisfied that they followed the story quite well. Jane Seymour has been one of our favorite actresses ever since. Back to the book, it did keep my interest throughout, even knowing what was to take place in the end
