Book Reviews of Big Beyond BeliefBook Review: It will work for you if you are willing to work for it Summary: 5 Stars
Let me tell you from the the start: this program is not for the beginner or someone looking for a shortcut. You have to be willing to follow the program TO THE LETTER and that includes a proper diet first and foremost. I don't believe in supplements, so the only thing I had other than good (healthy) food was protein powders. We got on the 2x day 6x week program...yeah we took a big bite out of the pain sandwich.
The result: I started at 185lbs at 5'11" and my friend was about 375lbs at the same height. After 9 months on the program, I had swelled to 225lbs with NO FAT INCREASE, and my friend had shrunk down to 275lbs...needless to say, we were accused of taking steroids which says to me that they either didn't know what they were doing or were too lazy to push themselves. One guy at the gym said he saw powerlifters lift more but he NEVER saw anyone lift the kind of weight we did for that many reps. People wanted to know what we did, but my training partner always said "superior training, man". We were freakishly strong. I went from barely getting 225x8 on the bench to a max lift of 475lbs...405lbs bench for 8!!! I was in shock when I got that up!!! Squats went from 315x6 to 500x10...THIS IS NO JOKE, but I can truly say that the first hyperphase (3weeks) was the toughest. Don't fall for the overtraining crap, your body will adapt and once you get through the initial soreness/weakness of the first weeks you will be amply rewarded. Always, always, eat a good diet- that will get you through the first part. If you're not eating right, you WILL overtrain- so drop that cheesburger!
Anyway, after I moved away from my partner and faded out of the serious growth plan (I tried to find an "easier way") I ended up getting bigger, but fatter...which is why I'm going back on this thing. Nothing has worked as well for me. I'm bigger, but weaker and not nearly as muscular as when I was on the serious growth program. To cut through it all, I would recommend the following:
1) Have a training partner that's SERIOUS about working out-so you don't whimp out on the hyperphase
2) You must have a sound diet...you really don't need supplements other than a protein shake and a good multivitamin...LEARN TO EAT RIGHT
3) Don't get creative and make substitutions...do what the program says-it's already tough enough. Your body will adapt to it and get stronger...just like a boxer with calluses on his hands-you gotta go through pain in order to get better.
That's it. Hey, the book doesn't cost that much anyway...the real expense is the hard work in the gym...but it will pay off, so you really got nothing to lose.
Book Review: Just buying the book works miracles. Summary: 2 Stars
Just owning the book did miracles for my physique.
I was putting on 5 pounds of solid muscle a week just staring at the book.
But that was not enough, I actually tried the routine, and I became Mr Olympia in one week!
NOW FOR THE TRUTH - It looks to have good intentions. But,
it gets a little stupid. Towards the end of it, it wants you to buy some supplements. And in the stage 3 and 4 of training, it talks about "instictive" training, where you are supposedly just suppose to "know" by magic what you need to do in the gym.
But of course it won't work without those supplements...
On the 8 page advertisement I read about it, about 16 years ago, it sounded convincing, just like "massive muscles in 10 weeks" and all the other crock o crudd miracle routines.
For any miracle routine - Notice how they always say you cannot have a hair out of place or the program will not work? They do that because then when you learn what a crock their overpriced book is, you can sit back and think - "Well i did miss that one workout cause I had to do something...or I did not take their $100 a month supplement" We all wish we could set our whole world aside to evote enough time to some miracle routine, but that is not the real world.
Book Review: Leo knows his stuff. Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is a good book for anyone who has hit a sticking point in their current program. Leo's well thought out workouts never give your body a chance to adapt to the stress you put it through. If the body can't adapt then you won't encounter a discouraging plateau. The book not only gives you the workouts, it gives you the scientific facts that are the basis of the routines. Also in this book is a section on diet, including a version of the atkins diet that is safer and easier to follow, with excellent results. This book is something that everyone who is interested in or takes part in bodybuilding/weightlifting should seriously consider reading. Overall very informative and a good read.
Book Review: Meatheads point of view Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried several bodybuilding and strength training programs in my time and I must say that Big Beyond Belief is by far the most superior strength training program I have ever used. My body completely transformed from the typical three to four workout per week physique (6' tall and 175lbs.) that I was strutting around with to the true meathead frame that I have acquired now (still 6' tall but now 230lbs.). I used the six day a week, one workout per day program a few years ago and I blew up in a period of four months. I went from 175lbs to 205lbs during that time and got much stronger, leaner and faster. I have yet to grow that quickly in that short of a time frame again. It was just a huge growth spurt from this superior training, my body just went into shock. The best part about that period of training was that before I read this manual from cover to cover and before I started and completed the program I actually thought I knew what I was doing. This program taught me so much about my body and what stimulates the greatest amount of muscle growth and how to acquire true strength. Since that time I have carried that knowledge with me and passed it on to a few "meathead" buddies and we all agree that this is the best workout around. I have moved on to the Titan Training manual and it too is a solid read and a good program. But now I must get back to Big Beyond Belief and re-educate myself about how to get big and strong once agian. I think applying the principles and regimen found in Big Beyond Belief and utilizing some kettlebell traning and old time strong man routines will allow me to get to 250lbs. Unfortunately I have to reorder a copy of the book because one of my meathead friends swiped it from me (cause it's that good). The only problem with this book is that the authors keep making references to bodybuilding. Although you will look pretty buff if you folllow this program, that is just an added extra. The real benefit is being big and strong. It's all about strength. I like to refer to it as a strength training program. Bodybuilding is for pretty boys with low self esteem that feel they have to get big for attention. Strength training is for true meats like myself who like to test the limits of their body and mental toughest. The kind of guys who like to drink beer and lift heavy objects for no apparent reason. Ever watch the highland games or strongman competitions....thats what I'm talking about. If you like being big and strong you need this book. If you want to sit on the preacher and do curls all day there is probably some dude at your local gym who weighs 135lbs soaking wet and charges [by the] hour to show you how to get tone and not, "too big". That just disgusts me, because whats is the point? You might as well be a veagan or something. Anyways get the book and get big. Good luck on journey to true strength, but with this book you won't need luck. I have a feeling that this review won't be posted but for whoever makes that decision.....POST IT. There are meats like myself out there who need reviews like this to know if what they are investing their hard earned dollars into is legit.
