Book Reviews of Birding by Ear: Eastern/Central (Peterson Field Guides)Book Review: Bird Sounds Summary: 5 Stars
This and the "More Birding By Ear" are both excellent systems for learning or extending your learning the sounds. The method of grouping the calls makes an abstract subject practical. I know most of the birds but have not always been able to link a call to a specific bird. The fifth edition of Peterson is an aid to looking up birds in that the recordings are link to this version.

Book Review: Birding By Ear takes time and effort, but is fantastic! Summary: 5 Stars
As a beginning birder excited about learning, I was very interested in memorizing bird songs and calls and finally decided to take the plunge. I did look at various products online by myself, but an experienced birder recommended Birding by Ear and thus the decision was finally made... and it was a right one!
This CD does an excellent job as it goes through 80+ birds based on families or song and call style, comparing and contrasting, sharing mnemonics, etc., all of which is helpful. Even though I've only really worked with 1 out of the 3 CDs thus far, and it has taken time and patience, I am already starting to hear and identify the beautiful Creations of bird song. It really opens up a whole new world for birding and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I've always enjoyed watching and listening to our feathered friends however my identification was limited to visual. I'm a learner by repetition and this audio series makes that possible. I have a substantial commute to work and can listen as I ride. I'm not only being taught but it is very relaxing! This audio series is an excellent way to learn and remember bird songs. Looking forward to spring and putting what I've learned to use out in the field!
