The book is currently back in print, but in a limited edition package that includes a poster (artwork from the Rev. Denise Matthews), with Matthews personally autographing the book. It is available through a website, with payment only by money order, so it may ultimately be difficult to track down in the future.
In the early-1980s, Matthews not only had a wild pop culture personality as the singer/actress Vanity, but she lived in the fast lane.....until her body broke down due to heavy drug use and she found out who her real friends were as she battled for her life in a small hospital room. In a moving account, Matthews describes her religious awakening as death loomed. Since then, she needs daily kidney dialysis treatment.
Matthews lived hard, but she had hardly lived and barely survived to tell this story. Her autobiography is a warning on the consequences of living for the night life and believing the lies of sycophants who sound so sweet when they don't have to pay the tab.
