Book Review: An entertaining and unique novel

This is the first book by Lynn Galli I have read, and on the whole, I enjoyed it very much. (it was recommended in the back of a Meghan O'Brien book)
My experience in part was hurt because I hadn't read the previous book in what I learn is ~sort of~ a series: "Imagining Reality". As such I am not familiar with the reappearing (and sometime overwhelming) cast of characters; this is one of my only two complaints. Outside of the two main characters, (and ancillary walk-on parts) there are no less than twenty-eight reoccurring supporting characters! This, along with a difficult first chapter had me wondering if I needed flow-charts to keep track of the entire cast!
That having been said, I will deliberately put my whining aside. The book eventually settled down into a very sweet, sometimes heartbreaking story, with two -very- surprising plot twists. (Sadly, one of these has been spoiled by several other reviewers.)
One of the other reviewers complained about one or two unrealistic points of emotional recovery. I haven't suffered or known others who have experienced the sort of pain involved, and so I can't speak to that, but I was willing to try and suspend disbelief for the sake of a well written story. I got weepy on page 70, and from page 176 on it was a semi-regular pause/sniffle type book (a very good thing).
On the subject of sex, there are a few BDSM scenes, but -very- tame, and not directly relevant to the main relationship. Other than that, the story is one where the relationship develops, and -then- the intimacy happens (which was _very_ tastefully done, BTW). How odd to read an "alternative" romance where people -aren't'- tearing their clothes off by chapter two!
Overall, A good book. (but after 2 Meghan O'Brien books, I'm a bit picky)
