Book Reviews of Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage

Book Review: Excellent overall with some disappointing omissions.
Summary: 5 Stars

I was one of the behind- the- scenes scientists on Project Jennifer and found chapter 9 especially enjoyable. A bit of trivia, a paper on our research appeared in Applied Optics the same month that the Times ran the story on Glomar Explorer. Coincidence?

I was disappointed that the adventures of "Willy the Hip" were not covered. He was a legendary sub skipper and his trip reports read better than a Tom Clancy novel.

Book Review: This book is as close as non-fiction gets to Tom Clancy
Summary: 5 Stars

It was a quick read. Remember though it is mostly an episode by episode kind of thing, for the most part suspense builds within a chapter, not through the whole book. Consequently, there is no huge climax at the end, but it's a quick read nonetheless.

Book Review: Fine Research, Superb Story That Had To Be Told
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm only 1/3 of the way through this and can already recommend it wholeheartedly. A great read if you are interested in the Cold War, Military History, and Sea Stories. This is what brave men did while Clinton and Quale and the rest of their invertebrate ilk made excuses. We who remain free owe these submariners a great debt.

Book Review: Much ado about nothing, or at least about very little.
Summary: 2 Stars

Perhaps I am jaded by 26 years as an intelligence professional but this book seems to be one good magazine article's worth of material stretched into a book. The author's describe several items of some passing value but mainly what they do is rehash a litany of information readily available in open source material. This is simply one of those books that promises much and delivers very little. I would suggest that the interested reader can find out more by using a good search engine and investing an hour or so at the computer. I must report, having been on the inside, that if the complete story could be told, it would be much more interesting and provacative.

Book Review: GREAT!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great read for anyone interested in either inteligence operations in the cold war, submarine warfare, or naval operations in general. This was fun to read.
