Book Reviews of Blood GamesBook Review: Good Horror Novel Summary: 4 Stars
Five friends from college agree to meet up for a weekend, once every year. This year it is Helen's turn, and she has chosen the abandoned, isolated Totem Pole Lodge, which has a grisly past, as the place to spend the weekend. However, the lodge is not as abandoned as they thought.
This novel is fairly standard Laymon fare. A gripping storyline, good character development, helped, in this case, by flashbacks to when the girls where in college together, and the usual improbable scenes, involving female nudity.
I found myself hooked on the book from the start. It is not as gory as some of his other books, and relied more on building up the suspense.
Book Review: Good but not great Summary: 4 Stars
I have read about 10 of Richard Laymon's books and I have liked them all. This is also an entertaining story. Richard has a knack for combining suspense, horror, funny dialogue and sexual overtones that keep you turning pages. I have actually come to enjoy his books more than Stephen Kings'. The two best books Laymon has written is "The Traveling Vampire Show" and "Island". Since his death I am slowly working my way through all of his novels savoring each of them. If you enjoyed this novel I also recommend David Morrel's novel "Creepers". They have similar story lines. For now Richard Laymon is still my favorite Horror writer.
Book Review: Hated it! Summary: 2 Stars
I wanted all these women to die, from the beginning. I love Laymon, but all the flashback/backstory annoyed the hell out of me! I couldnt care less what happened to them by the end of it. I loved the hillbilly overlook hotel, and the "ghost story" to scare everyone there, but that was about it, everything else was useless fluff.
Book Review: Horrible book! Summary: 1 Stars
There were no redeeming qualities in this book. The story - which started with an interesting premise - was so poorly written that it couldn't keep me interested. I plugged along through this book, and by the time I finished, I was desperately wishing that I could turn back the hands of time and NOT waste my time.
The story had no continuity, the characters were relatively vapid, and the flashbacks were utterly annoying. I know that Laymon is supposed to have a great cult following, but based on THIS book, I can't see it.
Book Review: I got what I ordered Summary: 4 Stars
This book was in almost new condition when I got it. It took a few weeks to get here but other than that, I am pleased with my experience.
