Book Reviews of Bloodsucking Fiends

Book Review: A fan for life
Summary: 5 Stars

I've always wanted to be a vampire, and being bitten by Jody is exactly how I want it to happen!

Christopher Moore is a genius, and his characters are totally believeable in spite of the fact that they are completely unrealistic. If you put P.J. O'Rourke and Steven King into the telepod from the movie "The Fly," the author that steps out would be Moore.

This is the first Moore book I've read, but it sure won't be the last. I'm a fan for life.

Book Review: A funny, quick-witted read
Summary: 4 Stars

I was a little reluctant to pick this one up and read it. My mom lent it to me a while back and it'd just sat on my self looking lonely up until a few days ago. I was just feeling rather burned out on the "Vamp novel" genre, but I decided to try this one out anyway and trust my mom's judgment.

Lucky me! I finished this one up in a day flat...just couldn't put it down. The dialogue was delicious, and Christopher's style of storytelling...yummy! Our red-haired heroine is "rescued" from the doldrums of everyday living when she's killed one hot night by an old (and slightly lonely) vampire. Instead of staying around to instruct her on how to live and function as a vamp her attacker stays at a comfortable distance to watch how she adapts to her new lifestyle.

Jody soon finds out she'll need someone to function for her during the day, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. Safeway manager by night, vampire's errand runner by day. Tom's innocence and seemingly endless supply of enthusiasm is instantly endearing and his character was one of the highlights of this book.

One of the reasons this book was a "one-dayer" is because every piece of story just happens bam-bam-bam one right after another. It's a great rollercoaster ride full of fun (if not a bit strange) characters who speak their minds and often caused me to laugh out loud. *g*

Book Review: A hilarious book about vampires in San Francisco
Summary: 4 Stars

This is Christopher Moore's homage to Anne Rice's vampire novels. Jody is a young woman lacking confidence and self-esteem. Suddenly turned into a vampire, she comes to enjoy being a predator. She acquires a boyfriend, Tommy, an aspiring writer from Incontinence, IN (!) recently moved to San Francisco, who is happy to be her minion, and takes care of her while she sleeps by day. He works the night shift at a local grocery chain with a group of stoners nick-named `The Animals', who use frozen turkeys to `bowl' in the stores aisles. Another memorable character is the `Emperor', a homeless man who together with his two dogs looks out for the welfare of San Francisco. Eventually, Jody, Tommy, The Animals and the Emperor must confront the old vampire who turned Jody. The book ends ambiguously paving the way for the sequel, You Suck.

Book Review: A very fun, excellent read
Summary: 4 Stars

Moore's style of writing is hilarious... very witty and original way of looking at things. Quality characters, storytelling, setting (love how he involved the nuiances of San Francisco into the story).... Bloodsucking Fiends is my first Moore book, and I'll definitely be reading another very soon.

Book Review: Add this one to your beach reading!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wickedly funny. Makes the Sookie Stackhouse books read like drama. Moore has penned a very funny vampire book - found myself chuckling out loud in parts. I originally bought this book in the late 90's - and have read it about three times. Moore has happily recenly published a sequel "You Suck" - which starts up where this story leaves off. Thumbs up!
