Book Review: I won't let my kids read it
Summary: 2 Stars

I loved this book as a child. Judy Blume is a talented writer, who reflects real life in her art.

I've decided I don't want my kids exposed to this real life stuff--it's trash, which is what you find in alot of real life. My kids are innocent of this kind of cruelty, and I hope it stays that way until they are old enough to make correct moral judgments on their own. Besides there is too much good stuff out there-- uplifting, challenging, morally strong material--to grow them up strong before they are faced with the situations described in Blume's book. I'd like for them to be Tracys, if that is the strongest moral character, rather than Jills, Wendys, etc. I'd like them to be the ones to stand by the Lindas of the class and take the blows with them. But I don't need to give this book to them to teach this lesson--we can talk about it every day.

Then Again, Maybe I won't, and Deenie are two others that offer material that could only serve to lead a child away from the home and the Lord. I wish they weren't out there anymore.

Book Review: JUST AWFUL
Summary: 1 Stars

I think in this day and age of school shootings this is a TERRIBLE book. This is how and why kids shoot each other, because they are made fun of.Not to mention the BAD langauge thats in it. I was APPALLED that my 3rd grader brought this book home from the library at school. I have since been to the princpal to have it REMOVED AT ONCE!!!!! Young children should NOT be exposed to such a HORRIBLE story

Book Review: Judy Blume Endures
Summary: 5 Stars

I can remember as a child reading Judy Blume's books and Blubber was one of my favorites. Now, as an adult, I have read the book again and it is still one of my favorites (and my 4th grade daughter's favorite, too). Blume touches on a topic, specifically, bullying, and I suppose one of the reasons that some ignorant people still try to get this book banned is because they just can't believe that their child could ever be as mean as the girls are in this story. Children can and will be mean to each other and as a parent, it is our job to teach our children empathy. This book is great way to teach it. We can see how mean the other students are to Linda and then just as quickly we see how easily they can turn, like they did on our narrator, Jill. In the end, their is no resolution with the gang leader, Wendy or with Linda, but sometimes this is just how life is. Sometimes there are no silver linings, no pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, Judy Blume's book teaches this lesson in a way that children can relate to.

Book Review: Judy Blume is not at her best.
Summary: 2 Stars

I thought this book was so-so. Even though Judy Blume was not teasing overweight people directly, I feel that if someone who was overweight (or thought they were), read this boook they'd be sligtly offended. I enjoy other books by her, but for even such a quick read, I don't think it's worth reading.
