Book Reviews of Blue-Eyed Devil

Book Review: Ahhh, Hardy. I think I love you.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not always the easiest critic for Lisa Kleypas books, but I will admit when one just works extremely well. And this one was great. I read 'Sugar Daddy' and 'Blue-Eyed Devil' back-to-back over the last two days, and if there was a third in the series I would have kept on going. What I think I loved the most about this series, and especially about Hardy and Haven's story in BED, is that Kleypas has found a way to break the predictable romance novel mold and delivers a fresh story telling style that I can't say reminds me of any other author. It really is original, at least to me, and I loved it.

I have easily read over 1,000+ romances, and I recognize a 'been there, done that' plot pattern, so I give big kudo's to Kleypas for her originality and risks with this contemporary series. I have read most of her historicals, so her historical fans should beware that she has stepped into a new writing style with these great contemporaries. There is a bit, and only a bit, of 'chick lit' styling in them, as we learn much more about the heroine's full life than what is typical in a straight romance. If you can deal with a more serious non-fluff topic in your romance, but not so deep to be depressing or distracting, I really recommend this book (and series.) Kleypas does deliver a yummy and sexy alpha male (OMG is he sexy!), and a heroine to relate to and love. And with no TSTL moments, not even one!

So what didn't I like about this book? Well, not a lot actually. It was hard for me to get used to the first-person dialog, but I couldn't imagine this series any other way now. I am glad I read Sugar Daddy first so I better understood Hardy's character, but for those who have yet to read Sugar Daddy know that this is a stand-alone book and can be read in any order. (Though I was glad I read them in order to give Hardy's character a bit more understanding) I look forward to her next contemporary. And while I am writing, I might as well go the distance and beg that it will be Jack's story.

Overall, a great contemporary romance read with a great couple, a compelling story, and a sexy as all get out relationship.

Book Review: Another winner for LK!
Summary: 5 Stars

Last year Lisa Kleypas made the Evil Knievel jump from her best selling historicals to hard cover contemporaries with the huge hit, Sugar Daddy. Some of her rabid fans were a bit skeptical about this move. To me, this was one of the best moves Lisa could have made. If she were playing career chess, this would definitely be a check-mate. Now it is time for the follow up, Blue-Eyed Devil.
Blue-Eyed Devil is the story of Hardy Cates and Haven Travis. You'll remember Hardy as the young boy who was always there for Liberty Jones and then broke her heart in Sugar Daddy. Hardy is all grown up now and he's a man to be reckoned with. He's rich, he's powerful. All the things he wasn't as a boy but swore he would be someday. Haven is the only daughter of tycoon Churchill Travis. She wants her own life on her own terms.
To me, this was a story about finding that place in life where you belong, about accepting yourself and loving yourself. It is also a story about healing and overcoming the odds set against you. Let me say, if I've ever got to wage a battle, please let Hardy Cates have my back! This was one of Lisa's steamiest, sexiest stories. You won't want to miss it.
One thing I noticed that shows what an amazing writer Lisa is, in Sugar Daddy, Lisa wrote Liberty Jones' story in the first person point of view. In Blue-Eyed Devil, we get the story from Haven's point of view. Both stories have a unique voice to them. As if Lisa were literally channeling her characters. No matter what time period or pov this author is a star.

Book Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was fantastic. I couldn't wait for the paperback so bought the hard cover. I just could not put this book down. I loved that Kleypas let Hardy redeem himself. Haven you lucky girl!!!!!

Book Review: Best book she's written!
Summary: 5 Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's the best she's written. I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended, but better to read Sugar Daddy first (which was also excellent).

Book Review: Better than Sugar Daddy
Summary: 5 Stars

Lisa Kleypas redeemed herself with this one. Although I enjoyed Sugar Daddy (the prequel to Blue-Eyed Devil), it also left me very disappointed with its rushed and unconvincing ending. In comparison, Blue-Eyed Devil is much more consistent in its story line and the way the characters behave. I could not put it down--read it all the same day I purchased it. Ms. Kleypas does an excellent job with the domestic abuse story line. For the first time in my life, I could begin to understand how someone might end up in such a situation. But don't let this topic scare you away! It is still a highly enjoyable, sensual, contemporary romance!
