Book Reviews of Book of Longing

Book Review: He's knows my life
Summary: 5 Stars

The vulnerabilty of the work in Book of Longing speaks to my soul, the humour makes me laugh, and the politics strengthen my spine. It sits with Shakespeare's sonnets on my living room table, within reach for spiritual nourishment

Book Review: Bad review, bad copy.
Summary: 5 Stars

Bad drawing on the front cover, poor photograph on the back cover, unfavourable computer drawings included throughout, thrown together layout on the inside pages, can I also say bad choice of type face for the title too? I don't know why I'm attracted to this book so much. Trap a hair in between the pages and you could substantiate a love affair.

Book Review: The latest gift from a living legend and uncrowned poet-king
Summary: 5 Stars

Sex and love and Judaism and Buddhism and the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and the nature of human mortality and all that...all made gentle, humane, and lyrical by one of the greatest songwriters and underappreciated poets of our time. Go buy this and read it with someone that you love or that you want to love.

Book Review: It's Good, But what else can you expect from Cohen?
Summary: 4 Stars

Hmmm, I think maybe I expect too much from Leonard Cohen. This collection of poems is heartfelt, nearly perfect in its bareness. Like haiku that isn't haiku, if you see what I mean. Written by anyone else, this book would probably get a 5, but this is the guy who wrote Hallelujah and Everybody Knows. Trademarked sense of humour and ability to cut through BS is here in spades. Well worth the money.

Book Review: Never Satisfied
Summary: 4 Stars

Sensitive and restless, Mr. Cohen's reflections and title are apt. There does seem to be a bit of self indulgence and immaturity here, and some equating of contentment with complacency, but it is clear he has led an examined life thus far, and may he do so for many more years.
