Book Reviews of Boondocks: Because I Know You Don't Read The NewspaperBook Review: 1 star for the hypocrisy and racism of McGruder and most of his supporters Summary: 1 Stars
Would you purchase material from a (conservative) white person who regularly involves race in his or her material, yet condemns a (liberal) black like Aaron McGruder as a racist for regularly involving race in boondocks?
Would you purchase material if the white person in question acted like he or she had a chip on his shoulder towards blacks?
If so, then purchasing Boondocks would not make you a hypocrite like Aaron (chip on his shoulder toward whites) McGruder, who has no problems regularly using race in his comic strip, yet condemns others, like Rush Limbaugh, as racists for doing the same thing.
Judging by the negative comments to this review, it appears McGruder's supporters believe it is ok for a black person to use race, but not ok for a white person. The term racist would be applied if someone was to say it was ok for a white person, but not ok for a black person.
Judging by the reviews, their most-likely university education taught them ways to justify their hypocrisy. It never taught them reading comprehension as the review is not critique of the strip, but the character of who is writing it and who supports the writer. Their education never taught them fairness based on action. Instead, in this case, they use race and ideology to judge what is right or wrong. These reviews truely reflect how the extreme "educated", "progressive" left is just as bad as the extreme "ignornant", "knuckle-dragging" right wing"
There are plenty of hypocrites who would never purchase material from the white equivalent, like B.Scurlock.
B. Scurlock "scur18" is demands that my comments be ignored in this "free country" (and only people like him should be listened too.)
Ignore this; Scurlock complains that I wrote the same comments on all Boondocks, yet he or she hypocritically wrote the same review as well. Thus, justifying one star for the hypocrisy of McGruder's supporters, like B. Scurlock.
B. Scurlock states, "The comic is not focused on the issue of race. This comic deals with political issues, entertainment news, and famous world figures"
From the Book Description and About the Author: "the strip fuses hip-hop sensibilities with Japanese anime-style drawings and a candid discussion of RACE.", "McGruder has become a widely heard and respected commentator on RACE, politics, and entertainment"
No "focusing on the issue of race", yeh right?
As my title states, I was not focusing on the issue of race, but "hypocrisy" of McGruder and most of his supporters, who would not support 180 degree equivalent of Boondocks, which would be written by a (neo-conservative) white person with a chip his or shoulder towards blacks.
Race-card players like Aaron McGruder have created an environment where people are "hypersensitive to the issues of race". They do this because they won't have to be accountable when they make similar racial comments, like Rush Limbaugh, Jimmy the Greek, etc, were made accountable.
They remind me of hypocritical whites who have no problem with racial profiling because they won't be profiled.
It is only when they both will have to receive a taste of their own medicine, will this stop.
In McGruder's case, he has a bunch of supporters, most of whom would not support the white equivalent comic strip mentioned above, thus makes them just as guilty of hypocrisy and creating this racial hypersensitivity.
It would not surprise me that Scurlock voted "no" thus shows how Amazon's system is abused by the immature or "I am GOD" types who can't take opinions that differ from themselves.
As a side comment, it says McGruder "majored in Afro-American studies." Would universities allow any "European-American" studies to exist if it turned out whites with similar attitudes about blacks, like McGruder has toward whites?
That said, to my original review. Aaron McGruder once called Rush Limbaugh a "racist" for his comments about the "NFL wanting a black quarterback to succeed."
It is only fair to apply the same R-word reference to Mr. Gruder as he uses his characters to make similar racial comments.
He gets a one star for his hypocrisy, not for what he says.
Amazon.com is not guilty of hypocrisy as it retails the Amos and Andy TV series.
The white equivalent of this would be written by someone with a chip on his or her shoulder towards blacks. Today, such a strip would never be allowed to be shown in most of the mainstream media newspapers.
As there were "Uncle Tom" or "Step-in Fetchit" blacks who would condone and excuse racism from whites, there are equally "politically correct" whites who condone and excuse hypocritical racism by Mr. Gruder.
Thus, one star allocated to the hypocrisy of McGruder's supporters for condoning something they would not allow the white equivalent to be shown in any of the mainstream media.
By the way, why does Amazon include a 'NO' in 'was this review helpful to you?' People are only human and don't like opinions that differ from themselves. With some who are less mature, this 'NO' makes it too easy express such displeasure.
Are they trying to discourage negative reviews, hence not purchase the CD? Such reviews only help a person in not being dissatisfied a product that received positive reviews
