Book Review: Music induced direct experience of The Void

I have been reluctant to write about my experience using this CD. I have limited patience for mysticism and can offer no assurance that my experience has any validity. And yet, in March 2006 I was listening to this binaural music, and suddenly found myself observing the universe. Through closed eyes I saw galaxies and vast dust clouds from the perspective of extragalactic space.
The vision dissolved, and then I became aware of "The Void." It was a pantheistic vision or awareness of a vast incomprehensible intelligence--though nothing like a sentient entity in any recognizable sense--creating itself through singular acts of "uncreation." The void was not self-affirming, but absolutely self-denying, as if it were "practicing" self-abnegation on an astronomical scale. I was reminded of Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon, who wrote that the Star Maker viewed the universe with the critical eye of an artist impatient to proceed with ever greater creation. Stapledon hoped to account for the cosmic indifference of the supreme being. The Void expressed neither impatience nor love, but a fleeting sense of humor--only there was nothing in which the free-floating, teleological deadpan could inhere.
I did not know what to make of The Void, and still do not. Only recently the possibility occurred to me that this revelation could inform daily living--but the grandeur of The Void was so remote from my own experience that I find myself lost to its significance. Must it remain a singular vision?
