Book Reviews of Bravo Two Zero: The Harrowing True Story of a Special Forces Patrol Behind the Lines in Iraq

Book Review: A story about the SAS in the gulf war...Too bad its fake.
Summary: 1 Stars

Yes your heard me. I havn't read this book, but I *have* read "Eye of the Storm" by Peter Ratcliffe. Peter says that in this book, alot of the stuff is made up. For example, according to McNab if the dogs approached the patrol, he and his men would use their "fighting knives" to kill the creature.

As Ratcliffe writes, he says that no man in his right mind would attack the dogs anywhere in the middle east because they are probably rabid, and the chances of anyone killing a dog with a knife is very slight indeed.

That and the fact the only knives the SAS carry on them are "clasp knives" which is apparantly the same as a swiss army knife.

You can read it, but don't take it seriously.

Book Review: A thoroughly engaging story of courage.
Summary: 5 Stars

A friend lent me this book, and at first I didn't like it at all because of the use of British slang. After about the first two chapters, I didn't notice the slang anymore and I became engrossed in the story. This is a true story of the most incredible bravery I have ever heard of. I could not help but wonder what I would have done given the same situation, but I am certain I could not have persevered as well as the author and his friends. I recommend this book to readers of all genres, as it has a little bit of everything for everybody. A real page turner, hard to put down kind of novel.

Book Review: A trurly believable account of real war and real war heros.
Summary: 5 Stars

The British SAS were always known as the best, and this book along with "Immediate Action" tells you why.

If it were not for these soldiers, I would worry for the safety of the world against such committed enemies.

Let's not forget the achievement of Chris Ryan (The One that got away) - he will remain an icon to any soldier.

Book Review: A very much needed insight into spec ops and war in general
Summary: 5 Stars

I could not put this book down. This book tells, finally, of the absolute horrors of war. It tells of how McNab and his men got to the point of wanting to die to escape pain. I used to think that the Persian Gulf war was just a "little war". But now, I realize that no war is "a little war" . I give my greatest respect to McNab, for a few reasons. To be able to tell that story takes a lot of guts, and, being a civvie, I will never understand anything about what being a soldier is like. But he gave me a good idea of what its like. He also destroyed my belief that the U.S. and its allies have taken part in "small wars". He painted a picture to go with the statement "War is hell". I also look up to him, and all soldiers, for being scared, but not calling it quits. I believe that all soldiers are heroes, for fighting and dying for their countries, and Sgt. McNab's book, Bravo Two Zero, has shown me that.
