Book Reviews of Brian's Winter

Book Review: "An exciting survival story that leaves you on a cliffhang."
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a fun book about a 13 year old boy, named Brian, in the Canadian wilderness. This book was written by Gary Paulsen. Due to a terrible plane crash in the wilderness, Brian has to survive through the worst season of all, WINTER! He has to be smart to survive the snow, the cold and the animals. I liked the book because of all Brian's adventures. You'll love this story if you enjoy detailed survival stories.

Book Review: 12 year old from KY says YES to Brian's Winter
Summary: 5 Stars

The only character in this book is Brian. He is a thirteen year old boy. In the book Hatchet, he gets lost in the woods of Canada. Well thats what happens in this book only, he returns on his own, in my book Brian's Winter, the sequal to Hatchet. Now he has to do it all over again, survive. The title is Brian's Winter, the author is Gary Paulson, writer of the award-winning Hatchet. The minute you open this book you know it is by Gary Paulson, because he is a adventrous writer. He discribes every scene like it is the end of the book. You can just see Brian cutting through the deer or the burning fire, it is incredible. In this book Brian tries to survive in the Canadian winter, hunt for food, start fires, everything from A to Z. Reling on insticts and intellegense, he must go on, winter or no winter. This book has many strengths, if I tried to tell them all, I would be here all day, but I'll list a few. It has great desription as you read, and the way Gary Paulson writes it seems as if you are there. Here is a quote I especially liked, "It will be here when you get back, we'll keep the soup hot". What does this mean, where is Brian going, does he get back okay? You'll just have to read it.

Book Review: A Boy Trying to Survive
Summary: 4 Stars

A Young Boy Trying to Survive

A young thirteen-year-old boy named Brian is lost in the Canadian Wilderness, do you think he will make it out alive? In this novel Brian does not know any survival skills. The survival skills that he must learn are hunting skills, clothing, and recognizing nature=s signal. I will tell you more about these skills in my next paragrgh.
The hunting skills that he learns are walk quietly towards the animal, be 15-20 feet away from the animal, and do not make any noises. He learns that he needs bigger and more powerful weapons, so he makes a new bow and arrow and a spear. Brian makes a lot of clothing. The kinds of clothing he makes are a vest with hood and sleeves, gloves, and snowshoes. The way Brian gets his materials are by killing rabbits, killing a moose, and taking strings from his sleeping bag. When Brian put on his snow shoes it made him a better hunter. Last of all he recognizes natures signals. He learns that he should pay attention to the weather. He didn't=t bother about the weather but when winter came he started to pay attention.

Personal Reviews
This was a very good book because it was descriptive and I never wanted to stop reading it. There was a very descriptive part when Brian went hunting for the deer, it was talking about how you could only see Brian=s head, and it said that he was walking very slowly towards it and then shot it. I would give this book a 9 out of 10. There was only two parts why I did not like this book was kind of to short and because it ended too short. Brian was smart and a patient kid, because he knew how to make a bow and arrow, a spear, and all kinds of clothing. He is a patient kid because he never gave up on the idea that he would make it out alive.

Book Review: A Cold Winter's Month
Summary: 5 Stars

Brian's Winter, a book written by Gary Paulsen, is an action packed adventure about a 13 year old boy who, in the previous book, was stranded in the Canadian Wilderness with a hatchet and a plane's survival pack. In this book, the Winter has come and Brian has to use healthy tactics to get food, build a shelter and make weapons. He also has to protect himself from such animals as skunks, Bears, and wolves.
This book has many great adventure that will make you want to keep on reading.
I think this book should be given to Army Trainers so they can teach their soldiers how to survive.
But, in my personal preference, this book had some areas where it could have been improved. Take the ending for example. Oh, I guess you'll have to read the book and see what you would like to change.

Book Review: A GOOD BOOK
Summary: 5 Stars

Brain is still in the woods. He notices that winter is coming. He is right, in no time the air cools and winter is upon him. He builds a door for his shelter and seals his shelter with dried mud from the lake. He makes himself a big bow and calls it the war bow. He go`s out to test his "War bow" and finds a moose. He shoots the moose with a little arrow, but the arrow doesn`t go through all the way, and the enraged moose turns and charges at Brian. Brain dodges the mosse but the huge cow comes back for more. This time the moose hits him but stops before it could hit him again. All of a sudden the moose just flops down on Brian. Brain see`s that the spear he made went through the cows neck. Brian skins the moose and eats it, for what seem eternity. One day Brian sees a straight line in the snow. He follows it and sees a cabin in the middle of the woods. An actual person comes out of the cabin...
