Book Reviews of Brian's Winter

Book Review: Brains Winter
Summary: 4 Stars

My revew for this story is that I think that it is a very exciting book it was full of chanlengles and is full of adventure. I liked how he prepared for the winter and all the challenges he has to over come to make the objects that he has to to survive the harsh winter. So read this book to find out what happens to Brain and see if he makes it or how he maneges to survive.

Book Review: Brains Winter: a review
Summary: 2 Stars

Gary paulson is the writer of many good books. This I feel is not one. While the adventure is good, and the ways he survives is dumbfounding, everything is very scripted. When he is abouyt to starve, he finds food. When you begin this book, dont expect him to die. It is after all a childrens book. But when I picked it up and looked at the cover and saw some reviews, I expected a little more from the award winning Paulson.

Book Review: Bria'ns Winter
Summary: 5 Stars

Brian's Winter is a book based on a real life situation. If you like to read realistic and survival books, Brian's Winter is a great book for you!
Brian Robeson is a 13-year-old boy and is stuck in the wilderness for over 4 months because his plane crashed. All he is left with is the emergency pack from the plane and his thoughts and ways of surviving. Hunting, building shelter and a fire, making clothing out of animal skin, making better bows and arrows, listening to natures signals, and playing the visiting game, are all ways this thirteen year old boy survives. Coming up with the "visiting game" was very clever for Brian to do. When playing the visiting game you are to imagine that a relative, friend, spouse, rock star, whoever, is in front of you. You then talk to them and tell them how you are feeling and what is going through your mind at that time. I think this was very helpful to Brian because it helped him cope with what he was going through.
Being at the age 13, and stuck in the wilderness all alone may lead to some difficulties as well. Brian often makes the mistake by ignoring nature's calls. The weather often changes and Brian notices it, but doesn't really do much about it. He also makes the mistake of trying to become friends with some of the animals. He makes one friend named Betty, she's a skunk and then tries to make another friend, but this is a big mistake. Brian tries to become friends with a bear and it doesn't work out the way he wants it to. Brian also makes the mistake by trying to build a fire in his shelter when it is airtight.
On a scale from 1-10, I rate this book a 9. It gives you a lot of details of what Brian sees, feels, hears, and different conflicts Brian has. It just amazes me how a 13-year-old boy can think of so many different ways to survive on his own. What would you do if you were stuck in the wilderness?

Brian Winter
Brian's Winter is a realistic fiction that tells about a survival situation. In this book Brian Robeson is a boy who is trying to survive the Canadian wilderness winter. There are challenges for him on this path. He would have to over come some pretty hard tasks to get to his goal of being rescued. He would have to make new weapons, kill some different animals, and used their winter traits to move and live in the winter times. For instance he would kill moose and deer so that he can have something to eat in the cold winter. He would also look at how a beaver house creates his so he can make his house weather proof. Last some of the new tool that he had made is the War bow and a lance. Will Brian get through the winter well or will he die trying to get through it. You will have to read this book to find out.
This was my first survival book and I thought that it was pretty good. The author of this book is Gary Paulsen and he had done a good job on it. Because in put a picture in my head when I was reading it. Most of the time he had describe well and I would see it clearly. In only little part he could of done more because I could not see anything. This is what I had thought of this book.
If I would have to rate this book it would be a four out of five. This book would receive this because it has good descriptions but some places could use some more. Also Gary could have made the book more realistic. In this book he get hurt but not badly hurt that he could not move. That is why I give this book that rating.

Brian Winter

In this action packed drama, it tells you the ins and outs of a cold hard winter. Brian is still stuck out in the wilderness, and has no idea what is coming. Two days before thanksgiving, the drama starts with a wild ride, that is followed by an winter storm. This is the follow up to Hatchet. If you felt that hatchet was an out standing book, you will love Brian Winter.
