A beautifully presented volume containing all Britten's writings and interviews on music, the role of the artist in the community, his own works and other performers and composers. It includes in additon to lectures, articles and speeches, his tributes and obituaries for those who worked with him, program notes to recordings and performances, and pacifist material relating to his conscientious objector's status during WW II. Britten was extremely interested in music education, music publishing, and new media (for example, television)and covers these topics as well as the relationship between composer, performer, and listener. This is an amazing resource, for anyone interested in all these topics and more. It brings together in one reference a complete view of Britten's statments on his own works.
