Book Review: A (mostly) revealing look inside.

As a bit of a "lapsed" Sting fan (someone who loves his work with the Police and early solo work, not so much what he's done since then), I approached this book with some caution, not sure of what I would find--nor if I would be interested. I was surprised at how quickly I became involved in the narrative, particularly once through the opening pages setting up a drug-induced "revelation" and deep into the story of his early years.
Sting's writing style is engaging, even if it does sometimes falter and become a little overblown--clearly the man loves words and occasionally uses them in excess when a simpler appoach would do. But that said, there is still a great amount revealed about the events and people that shaped Sting's life and his mindset in these pages. The reader will certainly come away with a greater understanding of his motivations and his music, and while the book ends after The Police first hit the stage at CBGB, one can understand why the band would never be the final stage of his musical career. Recommended for all fans of Sting, either solo or from his Police days, though I'm not sure it will be of much interest to anyone else.
