Book Review: It's just too much.

What fun this book is!
From song 1 to the end, this book is just so well produced and so pleasantly laid out, even the most musically illiterate person could struggle through and get something recognisable out of it.
I LOVE the transcriptions from fiddle to guitar, and only wish that some of these had been done for the horn parts. Listening to these songs, the horns are such a strong part of the feel, it would be of value to be able to replicate them in a small acoustic setting, either for bass guitar, nice quiet piano, or a twelve string acoustic just kicking on in the background with the horn part.
These songs lend themseleves to being sung. I was able to pick this book up, put in in front of me, and sing these songs like I wrote them. The book is so easy to follow, there is no lag between verses or inconveient page turns (of course you have to turn the page, but most of the time the next chord is so predictable, it's not the end of the world if you're a bar or two late!).
I would say this book is a must have for anyone looking for big but simple noise to make that is fun and so life giving. I don't think anyone can resist tapping a foot and eventually singing along to 'Pay me my money down' or 'Eyes on the prize' or even 'Oh Mary don't you weep.' These songs sing about humanity, and they are winners!
Hats off to Bruce and the Sessions Band, and thank you for bringing this little bundle of joy to the music world once again.
