I have read several Linda Howard romantic suspense books, and this is one of her weaker ones. After reading Death Angel and enjoying it (it's on my keeper shelf despite the flaws), I went to the public library to check this one out. And two days later, I was still struggling to finish it. I will not rehash the plot, as it was done in reviews written before mine. I will however state what I liked/disliked about this book.
The banter between the hero/heroine was funny at times and entertaining for the most part. But at times it was annoying.
The setting was mostly original for a romantic suspense book. However the chance to write a truly engaging/suspenseful story was missed. Simply said, it was a boring book for the most part. And I found myself not caring for either the hero or the heroine.
And in this book there is no excuse for the lack of romance, including any deep emotion, overall. I felt that it was really lacking on the romance/love front.
And on another note, I hope that this author can improve on the tender/loving feel in her books, which I find to be lacking in most of the books I've read by her.
The villian in this book doesn't make sense. Perhaps if she had explained his motives more, the reader might understand a bit better. And this makes the suspense subplot (which was mostly the plot in this book) weak.
The reason I rate this 2.5 stars, is because the banter was entertaining for the most part. And I felt that there was a lot of potential here that was missed...
