Book Review: A mixed bag

Yaoi fans will find something of interest here I think, even if the draughtmanship is pretty sub standard.
The stories of the boys passionately in love with each other look more or less the same, even with different plots, for the artist seems incapable of much variation. Everyone looks identical, even the one case where it's supposed to be an American boy obsessed with a Japanese-born one ("Scandal Kiss.") Most of the tales are humorous, or at worst poignant, while I think "Scandal Kiss" was supposed to be the "Vertigo" of the bunch, lots of psychosexual pain, including a "BLOW UP" style obsessed photographer who snaps his model over and over again, each time wearing fewer clothes. The photographer is driven by the image of photographing his desired one at the moment of ultimate surrender. Does that mean what I think it means? You know it does! Rape ensues and tweaks their relationship.
I would tell the artist, hire some male models for it is all too apparent that she has modelled every male character after her own flimsy self, the tiny sloping shoulders, the miniature buttocks like two tangerines, the extenuating graceful arms, and the Keira Knightley haircuts. How much could it cost to find someone with an adam's apple, not to mention the rest of what a man comes with.
The stories are cute, like episodes of LOVE AMERICAN STYLE. Once you get used to reading the books backwards, you'll find each short story a real kick in the head. The main story, of a young teacher pursued by a determined high school student, would probably find a cold welcome in the US school system as far as I know. But we don't read yaoi for its high probability factor, we read it because it's absurd and cute, like Elizabeth Peyton doing Kafka.

I love teacher/student stories, as long as they are portrayed well. Technically, the teacher is a sub and most of the story is set after he taught at that school, but this is a cute read ^-^Book Review: But I'm your Teacher

This was a cute manga. It's quite graphic but the art was pretty and the stories pretty good. There are multiple stories in this manga but all by the same artist. Overall well worth the buy.
