Carmilla, the first and oldest of the Vampire Loar!
I'll assume you've read the synopsys for this book that Amazon provide, so I'll cut to the chase.
This book not only has one of the most beautiful covers for this story, but can hold your attention for longer than most of the modern adaptions, save Carmilla: The Return.
Do not be fool into thinking this is a book based on the cheesy Hammer Horror movies about lesbian vampires, but, it is rather the other way round!
The story is beautifly written, has one of the most engaging naratives you can wish to read and will keep you going from one page to the next in wonder.
Once you've read this book you must go straight onto Kyle Marffin's follow-up called Carmilla: The Return. (I BEG YOU NOT TO BOYCOTT THIS BOOK BECAUSE OF THE CHEESY SOUNDING NAME. PLEASE GIVE ME THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT! YOU'LL BE HAPPY THAT YOU DID!)
This book is THE classic, having been the inspiration, 25 years later for the more famous DRACULA by Bram Stoker (Did you know that Bram Stoker was actually ABRAHAM STOKER.....hmm....Abraham Van Helsing? Yes...is really was him!)
Anyhow, please pay whatever you wish for this book, heck, rent it from the library, but PLEASE READ IT!! You'll always keep it in the back of your mind when you hear about vampires in the future!
