Book Reviews of Carrion ComfortBook Review: Long winded story that could be told with less effort. Summary: 3 Stars
At about 900 pages, you would think is book is an epic spanning
many generations. It is, however, a relatively simple Stephen
King-ish story of "mind Vampires" who, instead of sucking blood,
thrive on violence and death. None of the characters are very
likeable, and the story just goes on and on, into areas that I
believe could have been cut out. I like Dan Simmons style, but
here he's just not editing himself. His other book, Hyperion, is
a much better read.
Book Review: Mind Blowing Horror Summary: 5 Stars
With so many reviews on the book, I don't want to recap what everyone has said. Sure, this is a long novel but is it worth reading? You bet. Dan Simmons again proves what a dynamic and versatile writer he is. His characterization is top-notch and the ideas are nothing short of brilliant. The intensity of this novel makes the length a non-issue. Overall, this is a stellar effort from a talented author.
Book Review: My eighth and last DS book. I give up. -20 Summary: 1 Stars
Mind vampires who instead of actual blood feed on violence and death, they even compete (how sporting). Sheeeez! What a go no where idea. An old used up idea. I got as far as the 2nd chap. and took it back to the library, along with Song of Kali and Summer of Night, both stinkers. DS wrote one good book, Children of the Night. Everything else he has written, that I've read, should of been edited by half and rewritten by 3/4. DS writes likes he's in a manic state. Just words on paper, that's all his books are -- no depth, no believable plots/characters/feeling and zero magic. Dead writing. I kept trying DSs books because of all the positive reviews but geez I don't see what's to like.
Book Review: Not Free SF Reader Summary: 4 Stars
Dan Simmons has produce a horror novel of the disturbing kind. The vampires in this book are of a different stripe, being mainly concerned with mental control and degradation, not your average bloodsucking.
A young man comes across them in a nazi concentration camp, and decades later is still hunting them down.
The are more than one of these mindsuckers, and they have an annual gathering to indulge their horrific appetites.
The protagonist of the piece wants to get in and put an end to it.
Book Review: Not as good as everyone was saying Summary: 2 Stars
This book was very dissappointing....reading the reveiws i was hoping it would be a good book. This is my first time reading this authour. The book was a hard read, I had to try really hard to make myself read it. There were alot of dragged out parts in book and was very boring. The book could have easily been 400 pages. Read at your own risk.
