Book Review: A Sloppy Biography

Depsite the reasons behind the negative reviews of this effort, I purchased and read it anyway, giving it the old college try.
I won't repeat, but will confirm my agreement with, many reviewer's criticisms of the author's lack of basic knowledge of Cary Grant's work - I question whether he actually watched or paid attention to the plot and character development of the films Grant appeared in.
However, since the author makes generous leaps of faith in drawing conclusions about Grant's alleged secret homosexual life, I will make a leap of my own: the author himself is only projecting his own desire for a 'connection' with a film great, and will use any device at his disposal; including, but not limited to, a lack of journalistic integrity manifested through innuendo and zero factual basis, amateur psychoanalysis, loose artistic license, and cheesy romance novel-type prose.
While I acknowledge that any work of nonfiction can be molded to fit the perspective of the author, this work is an egregious example of an author molding his subject matter's life to fit his preconceived and biased conclusion. The lack of adequate support for the most shocking conclusions hammers that point quite well - see the 3 page sources section: it consists of a list of Research Institutions and a Bilbiography. No interviews (and, yes, there are people still living who knew him). In the very least, even if one suspects a cover-up the likes of the JFK consipiracy, he needs to make the effort to interview people to lend any credibility to what is otherwise an item to place in the nearest landfill.
And before anyone has a coniption because the author's conclusions on Grant's sexual life are equally important to them, take heart. I did give the author's work 2 stars rather than 1. Be content with that.
