Book Review: Can You Hear Me Now? - Never Sounded so Scary!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Great story - funny in bits, cared about the characters. I loved the descriptions of Boston, New Hampshire, of course, Maine. Not "throw the book down" scary, but there was enough blood and gore to keep it very interesting.

This was a departure for me, as I usually stick to "chick lit", but I've always enjoyed the occasional King thriller and this one didn't let me down - I loved the focus on what today is thought of as a "regular" part of our lives, but in fact, this book makes you look at cellular technology as being mysterious and it seemed plausible that there could be something scary going on and King found a way to bring the message home "loud and clear".

Book Review: Cell
Summary: 3 Stars

This was a really good read. It reminded me of some of George Romero's work with a touch more sci-fi than horror towards the end. I think the sci-fi, and the fact that Stephen King always leaves you hanging is the reason I didn't give it 5.

Book Review: Classic King
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is why you buy King. Good old fashioned, squirm in your britches, look over your shoulder, leave the light burning King. When he does it right - he's the best - and this is it. I've never liked my cell phone and now I know why! bg

Book Review: Classic King

Enjoyable read. Reminds me of zombie movies. Increased my heart rate a couple of times :)

Book Review: Decent for King
Summary: 3 Stars

Another King book...
Should I buy?
What to expect? Dreams. Lots of character development. A lame ending that feels like he gave up...
Do I risk it again?

I pretty much ask these questions each time I buy a Stephen King book. Yet, I still read them. Books like "It", "Salem's Lot", and "The Stand"... all great books, at least mostly.

With "It"- I loved that book... until the end, I completely hated how it ended. What? Turtle? What??? Like King's main character in Misery, I felt the "It" ending was a dirty cheat from a dirty birdie! And after reading a telephone-book scale of a book too. Grr... Still, a great read.

"The Stand" I believe (though it's been years since I read it) I believe left me feeling the same at the end.

"Salems Lot" was a really creepy good vampire story that I enjoyed, so I know that King's capable of hitting one out of the park.

Anyway, I've read a lot of King books.

This one, seemed to start off with a bang! Cell phones turning people into instant Zombies! Cool! No matter that most teenagers are actually living out this plot as I type. Again, great character development and a decent story.

Once again, King's great character development is rampant. I did like the fact that in this particular book, he didn't become completely mired in the inner monologue's of his characters as has been his knack in the past.

However, 2 things kept at me- This book felt VERY like "The Stand" (A group. On a journey. All having shared dreams. Etc.) and it also felt like the script for the film "The Pulse". This film was about basically this very same thing, but mazz zombie-dom was caused by the internet and not cell phones. Rent the movie. VERY similar.

Still, the book kept me interested and it was definitely more coherent than Lissy's Story, which went on and on with a pretty wonky payoff. It's strange though, even though you get dragged through this not-so-great stuff, for endless pages, the books are still captivating.

Regarding the ending of this book-I actually liked this ending (for once). I've read a lot of people griping about it, but I liked the "open-ended-ness" of it. Buy the paperback.
