Book Reviews of Cell: A Novel

Book Review: Great story...left high and dry with the ending
Summary: 4 Stars

Loved this book but it couldve been about 100 pages longer at least to tie up some loose ends...unless another book is being thought about to continue where this left off...

overall good read!

Book Review: He's Baaaaaaaaack!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I got my copy of "Cell" in hardcover, I quickly removed the dust jacket so that my 2-year-old wouldn't see all the blood. Then I started reading... and felt a pain everytime I had to put the book down. Stephen King is back with one of his best novels in years. Perhaps it's the ridiculous nature of the premise- cell phones that turn people to zombies? Perhaps it's the nature of zombies themselves... regardless, "Cell" is a read like buttered popcorn; but I wouldn't eat while reading it... too much blood.

Book Review: He's the master of modern horror
Summary: 5 Stars

Stephen King proves that he's the master of modern horror. I picked up this book over the last weekend, and didn't leave the couch for two days. The characters are well developed, but instead of being developed in the past like in most of his books, the characters actually develop during the course of the book. The Pulse causes the characters to discard the people they were before and form themselves into someone new. Those who can't discard their previous mentality end up committing suicide, unable to cope with the shift in reality. Adapt or die is the rule for the world after the Pulse. Read it, you'll like it. (But you will probably have more than one instance of "Oh, that was in The Stand!").

Book Review: Help me, Operator!
Summary: 5 Stars

As a confirmed Stephen King fan, this is the most fun King's had in years. Cell phones! Boston explodes! Zombies with ESP! You can just feel the fun King's having with that ubiquitous symbol of civilization, the cell phone. A fantastic popcorn book that makes you want to unplug every electrical device in your house and go back to writing letters. And by the way, King is one of the few authors who can write a Boston accent. When Beer Keg Man says to Clay and Tom, "Take care of little sweetie pie there," the Malden/Revere inflection is EXACTLY correct.

Book Review: High Voltage Entertainment
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a lover of the sci fi and/or horror genres. If you like page-turners, action, and suspense. Then this is the book for you. I made the mistake of listening to it in my car, and then got lost repeatedly, missing my street, and then could not get out of my car, because I had to hear more. I had to bring the CD in the house with me, and sit listening to it until the wee hours (something I never do). Its creative and entertaining. I think, underneath the zombie gore, this story is a commentary on our modern society. "Cell" reflects the notion that at any moment, our entire society will be threatened, due to our own actions. I think the critical reviews I see are not from sci fi fans. I think critics attempt to pigeon hole King. Just read it for what it is. I don't want or expect all of King's books to have the same qualities. Sometimes it suits to be contemplative and weepy through a novel. Sometimes it suits to be picked up and thrown against a wall. This is just pure fun. Enjoy!
