Book Reviews of Centennial: A Novel

Book Review: Not real happy . . .
Summary: 1 Stars

This book was old and pretty banged up with several pages present but torn out . . .

Book Review: One of his better stories
Summary: 5 Stars

Typical Michener but with a really good story mixed in, I have read it twice.

Book Review: Persevere
Summary: 5 Stars

Michener makes you earn the rich rewards in this book. He makes you read the first 100-150 pages which are tedious & boring unless you are a geologist or paleontology freak. This is because the first 100-150 pages are set millions of years ago telling how the Rockies were formed & a boring story about diplodocus the dinosaur that has little to do with last 800 pages which are set in the last 500 years.
Even though the start was a complete yawnfest I'm still giving this 5 stars as the rest of the book is as captivating & as compelling a book as I've ever read.
Someone should have had the guts to order Michener to severely edit the start, as alot of people would not have the patience.
I didn't know much about the real cowboys & indians but Michener paints a picture so vivid it's extraordinary.
This is the first book I have read from Michener, it won't be the last.

Book Review: The second-best book, and the best TV miniseries!
Summary: 5 Stars

Next to the Holy Bible, Centennial is the best book I have ever read.
And Centennial is the best television miniseries I have ever seen.

James Michener placed his fictional town of Centennial 10 miles southeast of the Colorado city of Greeley, to serve as the center of his panoramic saga of the settling of the American West. Centennial is a novel which masterfully weaves fiction and history in the entertaining manner that James Michener perfected. Whatever you most enjoy reading - mystery, adventure, romance, action, history, even science - Centennial has it all. It is a thoroughly enjoyable (and informative) read, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Michener wrote many bestsellers but he peaked with Centennial, which is one reason Centennial was also made into a remarkably ambitious, 26+ hour 1978 television miniseries. It is also sold by Amazon (Centennial: The Complete Series), and at a bargain price. Costing a then-enormous $25 million, Centennial the miniseries involved 4 directors and 5 cinematographers. The miniseries remained very faithful to the blockbuster book, and it was extremely well done in every way. Don't be concerned about how this 1978 production will look on your big-screen HDTV, because the six DVDs look absolutely beautiful on mine.

In conclusion, if you are not yet acquainted with Centennial I envy you, because you are in for a treat. Read the book, and then enjoy the equally-excellent miniseries. You will not be disappointed.

BTW, the fact that Centennial is not yet available as an e-book is inexcusable. Please click on the "Tell the publisher! I'd like to read this book on Kindle" prompt at the top of this page (under the picture of the book). Thank you.

Book Review: This is the book that started me reading.
Summary: 5 Stars

What a wonderful book. By now there are a million people who have reviewed James Michener's Centennial before me, so I am not going to regurgitate the story for you and list why it is a great read. Many years ago, as a non-reader (too busy to sit down) I picked up this book and could not put it down. Love, Love, Love it!
