Among American authors, probably Steinbeck is my favorite wordsmith-"The world's still spinning in greased grooves", but the vast research Michener puts into his novels makes for a great read. I liked Centennial so much, I visited Michener's grave just to thank him. He writes in vivid pictures. Photography in words.
