Book Reviews of Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the TaoBook Review: Great reading Summary: 5 StarsThis book is great, I am reading a chapter a day, and the message is good.As all books like this, you need to absorb what YOU as the reader needs out of it. I enjoy it.
Book Review: Ego-maniac Summary: 1 StarsFortunately, I've known one of Wayne Dyer's wives (out of 4?), who he treated as a posession --- no leaving the hotel while he's working, no socializing without him, no learning to drive, and other emotional abuse.
Just wanted you'all to know what a phoney he is.
If someone gets some help out of his messages, it's in spite of him. Kindness is great, but know that you can be kind without Wayne's inspiration --- aka guru complex. I think hi$ Hawaii e$tate $um$ it up -- it's a great gig if you can get it.
Go straight to the 'poorer' sources, regular folks, for more insight.
Book Review: Wayne's Tao to Tao for Americans Summary: 5 StarsDao De Jing: a New-Millennium Translation
This book is Wayne's intensive year-long journey in learning and living the wisdom of the Tao which changes profoundly his thoughts as well as his life. It is his personal testimonial interpretation and teaching for people living in the American competitive corporate culture longing for spiritual power and freedom without the threat of eternal condemnation and torture.
Wayne advocates living Tao-centered lives `government will need to retreat from regulating our personal lives, overly taxing our income, and invading our privacy' (page xiv). This will be a handy guide and advice for all politicians especially in our Congress and White House as former Secretary of defense William Cohen was reported as an avid reader of Tao Te Ching.
Wayne rightly points out Verse 12 `you can't have peace and inner satisfaction when motivated by not having enough'(p.57). Is the beautiful actress with the biggest diamond and fame happy? Master Lou Tzu said "the contentment of contentment is contentment". Does advertiser promote owning their widgets, especially automobile promise freedom? The truth of getting rid of excessive wants enables the greatest personal power - freedom from banks, credit cards and loan sharks.
Wayne translates Verse 31 `weapons are the tools of violence'. Is it true that this country with the most stock pile WMD still claims being threatened?
Does Verse 42 give a simple creation picture similar to Big Bang Theory?
In Verse 66, Wayne says `don't fight with family members'. Confucius defines the 5 relationships: obligation between governor and governed, duty between husband and wife, love between father and son, proper manner between siblings, and trust between friends.
Verse 74 talks about change - I Ching is the first Chinese classic valued change.
Verse 77 says `the way of heaven is like a bow: the high is lowered, the low is raised. The Tao of mankind is the opposite'. Does he mean corporate welfare?
Lou Tzu discovered and condensed his Tao of Universe down to earth into the Tao Te Ching. Among the China bashing, Dr Dyer brings this Chinese classic into American life for the pursuit of peace and happiness which are not prescribed dependently by clergy, insurance agent, doctors or presidential candidates. Wayne is truly a Taoist !
Confucius said: To hear in the morning that the Tao prevails is to be able to die without regret at night.
Please refer to the other masterpiece of Tao Te Ching by Dr David Li
WARNING: Reading Tao te Ching can be additive !
The Living I Ching: Using Ancient Chinese Wisdom to Shape Your Life
Book Review: good but his audio tapes/videos are easier to follow Summary: 3 StarsI really like this book and I think Dr. Dyer is excellent. I must say though that I enjoy hearing him speak more than reading him. He is easier to follow when I can actually listen to him.
Book Review: Not one of his best Summary: 1 StarsI really like Wayne Dyer a lot... was disappointed to find that this is only a synopsis of the Tao... not even much discussion on his slant or outlook on "living" each lesson from the Tao... very disappointed... havent even listened to the meditations yet due to time involvement in these CD's and the grind of getting thru them...
