Book Review: LOVE Charlie & LOLA - but don't change it for American readers!

I'll start out by saying I have to be one of Lauren Child's biggest fans, followed closely by my almost 3 year old daughter. We love Charlie & Lola, and are even planning a C&L birthday party and Halloween costume.
This is why I'm really disappointed at this new numbers book...the premise is good, illustrations are adorable as always...BUT..WHY O WHY did the publishers have to AMERICANIZE it...for goodness sakes, it's Charlie & Lola, they are British, they say 'biscuits' not cookies, and 'fish fingers' not fish sticks...part of the reason I love this series is that it stays true to it's British roots.
When I was a child I didn't have any of my books changed to represent how my country said or spelled words (New Zealand), so why would we do it with Charlie & Lola. Bad move. It might slip by unassuming parents, but my daughter picked up on it straight away, she said "those are biscuits Mummy!" just so happens thats what we call them in my house anyway...but c'mon publishers, don't assume American kids can't handle a different name for an object...that's how we learn about other places, cultures and language. Don't dumb our kids down. The comments by the Miss Teen America contestant recently should have you quaking in your boots, let our kids read books how they were written, change colour to color, but dont change biscuits to cookies, fish fingers to fish sticks! My daughter says 'cookie monster', and I'm sure they wouldnt change it to 'biscuit monster' for the British market, nor would I expect them to.
