Book Reviews of ChokeBook Review: A book for feeling good Summary: 4 Stars
This book is the first of Chuck Pahalniuk's novels I have read. The book was interesting enough that I purchased his new release "Lullaby" and "Survivor". Choke was nothing like "Fight Club" the movie(Haven't read the book yet). It took a little bit of patience to get started but I finished with ease and surprise in the end. Choking to get by in life and trying to find out who you really are.
Book Review: A glimpse into the mind of an addict! Summary: 5 Stars
Chuch Palahniuk has captured the true essence of being a sex addict. He accurately describes the mental games and justification of all sexual acting out. What's more he explains how the addict got that way. A true treasure to read.
Book Review: A great book Summary: 4 Stars
This was the first Chuck Palahniuk book that I've read, and I loved it. I would give it 4 and a half if I could. The description of the hospital and the people in it was amazing. My only problem with the book was that things were introduced and not explained until later in the book, and it caused a little confusion. But then again, sometimes when that happened, it enhanced the story. Pick this one up, as long as sexual situations and cursing don't bother you.
Book Review: A great read Summary: 5 Stars
Choke is brilliant as it is sick, I loved it, I have read all of Chucks books. I put Choke off to the last one because a friend told me it wasn't that great, well needless to say, I shot that friend after reading this book. Some of the sexual situations seemed like hashed out fantasy's that Chuck may need to deal with in the future, but all in all it was a great read. Plus this book has some of the best side characters in a novel I have ever read, especially his friend Denny, which I think holds a tie with "Invisible Monsters" Brandy Alexander. And the ending is just a wonderful piece of art (If you didn't get it, read it again.) Especially the last paragraph, Which I would say are the best finishing lines I have yet to read from Chuck. Hazardous isn't the right word, but it's the first one that comes to mind.
Book Review: A quick read Summary: 4 Stars
Choke is a quick and entertaining read, which took me just a couple of days to get through. It was my first book by this author, and I was only aware of him through seeing the film Fight Club (which I didn't really like- I'm just not a Brad Pitt fan) -that being said, I found the book to be worthy of praise because it has an underlying philosophy to it, of basically creating your own reality, and not being programmed into robotic submission by society, or something like that. He is back in the land of 12 step meetings, and strange characters and stranger sex, but the whole book comes together at the end as the protagonist finds some kind of redemption. I am not sure I will read more of his work, but I am open to it - he gets four stars for inventing the term "dog and dice"
