Book Reviews of Circle of FriendsBook Review: An all-nighter Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing book. Once I started reading, I could not put it down until I had read up to the very last page. The characters were so real, and the plot was excellent. I sympathized with Benny, rejoiced when good things happened to her and got very sad when things went badly. Even though it didn't have a Hollywood ending, I thought it was very true to the characters. Some people might find it a bit slow, but I loved every page of it. Even being very tired the next day was worth it. A must read.
Book Review: An enchanting novel that was surpassed by the movie. Summary: 3 Stars
Circle of Friends is a pleasant novel chock full of
believable characters. This novel has a comfortable pace
marred by a few sluggish portions and confusing flashbacks.
It is a shame that the film version of this story is much
better than the novel itself. The ending is much more
satisfying and true to the characters created by Maeve
Binchey.
Book Review: An extrodinary book of betrayal, hatred and romance... Summary: 5 Stars
This book "The Circle of Friends" is assigned for Freshman students going to HighSchool. As I was reading this magnificent book, I was whirrled around to the world of Maeve Binchy's amazing tale that I will never forget. "Circle of Friends" is a lovely tale of friends, love and life.
Book Review: Another Pleaser Summary: 5 Stars
Benny Hogan and Eve Malone were inseparable since Benny's tenth birthday party. They could not have been more different. Eve was the daughter of a handyman and a rich girl rebelling against her parents. Orphaned, nuns raised her. Benny felt smothered by her adoring parents.
Both Benny and Eve study at the university in Dublin where they met Nan Mahon who has her whole life planned out, starting with finding the perfect husband. Benny falls in love with the handsome Jack Foley who manages to love her despite her size. However, when tragedy strikes, Benny and Eve learn who they can really trust.
Written in Binchy's usual easy to read style, Circle of Friends is a wonderful novel of friendship and betrayal. I easily finished this novel as I watched Benny struggle with her weight and the expectations set by her family. Eve learns to trust again as the family who scorned her slowly allows her back in. Our emotions wonder as Nan makes some bad choices, hurting everyone in her way.
Book Review: Another great read Summary: 5 Stars
It seems to be a common storyline in Maeve's books - tragic events in an Irish's woman's life - but each of her books are hard to put down. I have seen this movie before reading the book, but loved the book as well as any other.
