Book Reviews of Color Me BeautifulBook Review: Good but Needs Serious Revision Summary: 3 Stars
I first read this book when I was 15, and thought it is fun, interesting, and useful. Nine years later I still do, but there are things about it that I found disappointing then and do now. First, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is very obviously geared toward Caucasian women. That perhaps can be explained by the year it was written- but there has been plenty of time to fix it! Second, I thought it was ridiculous (and mildly offensive) that Carole Jackson throws all Asian, African, and Native Americans in the same season, presumably because she thinks we don't have variations in skin/hair/eyes like other peoples do. Of me and my three sisters- all Native American- only one of us fits into the category of "winter" that Ms. Jackson says we all ought to be in. (The other two are summers, and I am a spring.) All in all this is a nice book that is actually informative. But women of many ethnicities will either find themselves figuring their season out all on their own, or being disappointed.

Book Review: Great help in clothes selection. Summary: 5 Stars
I hated going shopping for clothes until I studied this book. Now I know why (and which!) certain colors make me look healthy and others make me look extremely ill. And I spend much less time shopping -- I walk into a store, see there is nothing for me, and walk back out.The cosmetics section has also been very useful; it explains how to suit my makeup to my face in both shade selection and area of application. I found out I'd been doing exactly the wrong thing to my eyes! Now if only the clothing and cosmetics industries would get the word!
Book Review: How To Look Your Best Summary: 5 Stars
"Color Me Beautiful" is an excellent book, well written, filled with valuable information, a really enjoyable read. The book is also very practical. As such, I've used it when buying clothes for years. The author shows how everyone, depending on the their skin and hair coloring, look best in one of four different seasonal palettes. The summer and winter palettes are the cool colors, while the spring and autumn palettes are the warm ones. To break it down further, the summer palettes have muted, cool colors (the autumns have have muted, warm colors) and the winters have vibrant, cool colors (the springs have vibrant, warm colors). I am a winter and look best in the vibrant, cool colors of that season, such as royal blue, charcoal gray, bright lemon yellow, blue red, emerald green, icy blue and green, white and black. For example every season gets a shade of while, but only winters get pure white. Also, only winters get black in their palette. For example, wearing beiges, which the winter palette has none of makes me look sallow, with dark circles under my eyes. Knowing your best colors saves shopping time and when you wear your most flattering colors, you will exude confidence. I took a class to help people find the right seasonal palette for them. I really enjoy helping people look their best by discovering their seasonal palette.
