Book Reviews of Color Me Beautiful

Book Review: I read the hardcover version of this book . . .
Summary: 4 Stars

. . . and I'm assuming the paperback is the same inside. I am a summer who can also wear winter clothing; self-diagnosed. My eyes are green & brown, my hair is brown, and I thought I was an autumn until I read this book. I was wearing browns when I should have been wearing blues & pinks. The book helped me have confidence in clothing selection once I read it; now I know what works for me.

Book Review: It is 2nd only to the Bible.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am 29 (for the past 15 years). I have been using this book since 1989. It has helped me to achieve all of my dreams, make incredible 1st and lasting impressions, save money, and keep my clothes for decades. I am a classic - romantic - winter. I look my best every day. I never wear anything twice. Everything goes with everything. I recently purchased my 4th copy of Color Me Beautiful. I have given it to many, and recommend it to those who are close family and friends.

Book Review: Lookin' Good --- With Less Effort
Summary: 5 Stars

I have similar coloration to the author -- black hair, white skin. I have looked like a million bucks since I started wearing her recommended colors. I never look bad or sickly.

Basically, I stay away from anything orange, brown, or ochre, or anything sickeningly sweet. I look good in black, white, pure and cool-toned colors.

It makes clothes shopping easy and enjoyable. The tips are also helpful for interior decorating. It can also help with buying clothes for a family member with different coloration, so that they can look good too.

The fashion advice is kind of lame, since it was writen in the 70's. I also enjoy wearing casual clothing, which she say is wrong for my "type" ( But right for my lifestyle! )

Also recommended: She has written a book about makeup that makes my makup look very natural and flattering -- grey eyeshadow, and red or rose lipcolor.

Book Review: Need updating
Summary: 3 Stars

Although this book contains so many helpful informations, its illustrations seemed somewhat outdated.

I find that it is very hard for me to make this book as my style guide since there have been so many changes in fashion world lately.

So, although those looks could be considered to be really gorgeous at that time [80's] it would seemed weird if we practice it nowadays.

Book Review: Not as much as I expected
Summary: 2 Stars

I think this book is getting a little old. A little too old. First of all, the author's color categorizations (spring, summer, autumn, winter) are extremely rigid. I am convinced that a very large percentage of the population of "anyland" would NOT be able to fit exactly in any of her proposed categories. This is so much more important that she emphasizes that a person CANNOT possibly be more than one season. This is completely false. I personally find it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to decide whether I am a winter or a fall.
I wear beautifully some colors fom both of these seasons. Based on her exact specifications I would be a Winter (not a fall), yet most of the colors that she suggests for Winters (cool, clear, bright colors) look absolutely horrendous and cheap on my olive complexion. I know that for a fact - it's instinct.
Second, I think that the book has a very heavy "eighties" influence. For example, those screamy, primitive, primary, "eighties" colors that she suggests for the Winters and some Summers in her pictures, would not look good on ANYONE at the begining of the 21st century. Period.
The topic of the book is useful and interesting. However, the content needs an enormous amount of "updating" and "open-mindedness".
