Book Review: An Extremely Enjoyable Read

Yet another new author as far as I am concerned and not the most endearing of subjects to read a novel about but once the initial squeamishness that is bound to surround the subject of the plague is overcome, the book becomes an extremely interesting read. One can only wonder with horror what it was like to be alive (but for how long) at the time of the plague in England but this book has a very good stab at it.
As is usually the case when there is trepidation, fear and hardship among the population there is always someone who attempts to turn it to their advantage and in part this is what the storyline of the book is about. An adequate synopsis is shown by Amazon.
Set in the mid 14th century the sights and sounds of the period are beautifully illustrated by the author, whose characters grow on you almost from the first page. I found it an extremely enjoyable read, even though the pestilence that ravaged England at the time was anything but enjoyable for those of the population caught up in it.
