Book Reviews of Contract on America: The Mafia Murder of President John F. Kennedy

Book Review: Very Disapointing.
Summary: 2 Stars

I have read many books regarding the age old question, the biggest question in the history of America, who shot JFK, however this book gives no clear indication as to what most researches already knew and suspected. I found David Scheim to contradict himself on man occasions, which is probably why this book isnt regarded as one of the more prominent books to the conspiracy of who shot JFK.

David Schiem falls over himself right from the word go, giving me the feeling that the only person he was trying to convince about his fabrications that the Mafia were the real purpertrators in this helacious act, was indeed himself. He does however offer an arguement for his beliefs, but in doing this he ignores the more credible evidence to the contrary. The biggest contradiction which is the basis of the whole book is that Scheim publicly slates District Attorney Jim Garrisson, who to this date is the only man who has ever brought a trial in the killing of JFK, stating that he was mobbed up with Carlos Marcello a Mafia bigwig of New Orleans, but whether this is true or not, Scheim constantly drives the idea that because he was mobbed up his case was done on for the sole purpose to deflect attention away from the Mafia as the sole organization who made the killing, always stating that it was in itself another conspiracy, also stating that Garrisson wasnt interested in bringing to light the possibility that the MAfia may have had a hand in it, but Scheim is also responsible for looking the other way at other possibilities that the Mafia were the sole participants. Scheim also overlooks the fact the Garrison because he was a District Attorney it was because of his powers that he Subpeanaed the famuos Zapruda footage that was confiscated by the Secret Service from Abraham Zapruda who taped the whole thing, the footage was locked away in a building since the assasination took place and it is thanks to Jim Garrisson that we all have seen this footage now, but Scheim doesnt even admit this in his book. Scheim also overlooks the fact that Clay Shaw, who was the prosecuted by Garrisson was in fact everything that Garrisson said he was, as it was later admitted under oath years later by Richard Helms, Director of the CIA in the seventies, who clearly states that CLay Shaw, was in fact a contract agent for the CIA, but Scheim never tells you about this, just merely states that Shaw was a respected business man in New Orleans. So it is clear that for all the reasons Scheim riddiculed Jim Garrisson for looking the other way to Mafia possibilities, Scheim also does the same, by dredging up mafia shootings in the past and trying to liken them to the JFK shooting.

Scheim however does try to make a convincing arguement to his claims, but you get the feeling that he is trying convince himself more than anyone else. I do agree that the Mafia had every reason to want to kill Kennedy with his and brother Robets crusade against organized crime, but I only belive that they had a hand in it, at a lower level, even though the Mafia connections are quite astonashing. The incident in Dallas November 22 1963, was not the first time the American intelligence community had worked hand in hand with the Mafia, they asked for the Mafias help during the second world war, an operation known as operation underworld, where promninent Army and Navy figures asked the Mafia to assist them for 2 reasons. The New York harbour was a prime target for Nazi sabotage and intelligence gathering, the habours where contorlled by Mafia fronted unions, which assisted in tracking down any such activities, the second was to assist with the extremly important invasion of Sicily, where Lcuky Luciano would be released from prison in return for such favours. Another incident was more critical to Kennedy assasination, where the CIA had asked the help of the Mafia to kill Cuban Revolutionary Fidel Castro, but yet again Sceim overlooks this, and this is more critical to preceedings as this shows that the CIA weren't too bothered about asking another organization to assist, crimanl of none criminal. Tha CIA just get the job done, which ever way they can and this should have been the basis for Scheims beliefs, that in fact it was a conspiracy that invlolved not just the Mafia but to people that indeed walked the very halls of pentagon itself, as Kennedy had just about brought an end the the reign of the CIA during peace time with a document that instructed all covert operations had to have the permission of Kennedy and the joint Cheifs of staff, a decission that was quickly overturned when Lyndon Jhonson succeeded Kennedy in the white house, this is evidence that shouldnt have been overlooked in anyway shape or form, and it is beacuse of this, why I have given only a 2 star rating, the lowest I have ever given if I might add, i would have given but one,if it wasnt for the long research that Scheim had put into writing it stating it took him nearly 10 of research, but if it wasnt a the foreward who was written by John H Davis, an author that has written many books about the Kennedys this book would have flopped bigtime, but then again this book isnt considered as being one of the more prominent books of this subject and after reading it I fully understand why. Truly a massive dissapointment.
