Book Reviews of CookingBook Review: Great technique book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great book for technique, but I think it is probably too advanced for a beginning cook. Every recipe I've tried has been wonderful, but I've had to alter each one just a little to achieve the results I wanted.
Book Review: I'm learning a lot. Summary: 5 Stars
I've been cooking for years. My saintly wife has lived with more experiments than anyone shoyld have to endure. In the few weeks since I got this book, and have taken its lessons to heart, she has proclaimed that my cooking has "reached a whole new level" (which means she likes it, and maybe me, better.
And I agree. The book is great. I learn something new each time I pick it up. Thanks James Peterson!!!
Book Review: If you dont cook that often and love to surprise yourself and your better half every now and then GET IT!! Summary: 5 Stars
Here is how we got this book, after going to a local library to research on traveling options and look at travel guides i got interested by this big book that was in the middle of the shelf, ok, since we do not cook that often i was pretty doubtful about the use that we would give to it, anyway we went ahead and got it, and .... well we couldnt be more pleased, this has a bit of everything, Veal, Pork, Meat, Desserts, Fish, we've tried several of them and they are delicious, while sometimes you have to jump to another page to verify how a "basic" procedure is done, and that ... when you have your hands full with bread, pork, meat .. is not a pleasant surprise, ... that might be the only downside of this book as it has some really delicious recipes, its really well illustrated, really i can assure you will be super pleased with the book and its results!
Book Review: It Was a Gift Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't actually buy this for myself. It was a Christmas present for my oldest brother. He had something like 5 cookbooks in his Amazon list and I wasn't sure which one to get him. This book seemed the best choice because the title is very simple and self-explanatory, without resorting to gimmicks to fool the average consumer. On Christmas day when he opened it, he said, "Wow, this is the cookbook I really wanted." From then on for the rest of my time at his place he read it voraciously. I took a look, too, and have to say that it made me feel that I could learn to cook. Every recipe is accompanied by step-by-step instructions that incorporate beautifully composed photographs that show you what the food is supposed to look like at each point in the process. If I ever need a cookbook this is the one I would want, too.
Book Review: Jimbo Summary: 3 Stars
Looks like a pretty good cook book. However - it was way over my head. I thought it would teach you basics in a simpler way. It did not. I gave book to my daughter who is an excellent cook who just recently wrote her own cookbook. She loves it. My first and only try to make cheese straws was a disaster. Besides the cheese used in the recipe cost a fortune. I'm not complaining that it is a bad book - it is just a bad book for me. I need simple.
