A great collection of poetry from the lead singer of SOAD. If you're used to their lyrics you know what to expect. Some poems are more coherent than others, and others, although hard to gain meaning from, are a beautiful collection of words that seem to flow and sit together perfectly and are a joy to read. The accompanying artwork is outstanding, and as noted elsewhere by reviewers, best suited for an adult audience. Never the less the art really adds to the poetry and overall package. A beautifully produced book with some stunning poetry and philosophy.

Serj Tankian is a very creative lyric writer so you can expect his book to be very good. Serj talks about the last 7 years of his life so you can get insight of how he gets his great lyrics, and hear him express him self in poetry. I haven't read this book yet but im looking forward to it.Book Review: Don't just buy this book because you love SOAD

Okay, I appreciate the music and sound of System of a Down; however, this book actually makes me question that. This is really poor poetry. Examples of this are such lines as "you give good he*d" and the following full poem. "A Metaphor?"
"Every time I fart, of late, I feel the excretory juices of my feces, squishing and squashing between my butt cheeks, However I have no desire to wipe my *ss, anymore. A metaphor?"
Inspiring, no?
To me, Serj comes across as sexist throughout the book. It really seems he has no idea about the gender he so badly wants to man-handle. Not to mention the horrible artwork in this book! On almost every page there is some grotesque vagina, which just pushes the sexism issue. For instance, on the same page as the masterpiece I quoted above, there is a picture of a crazy-scary vagina with teeth.
Folks, the book is published by MTV for crying out loud! If it was not for his star status, Serj would have never had this book published.

Cool Gardens is a book of poems released by System of a Down's frontman, Serj Tankian. Serj's collection seems to capture every special quailty that you can also find throughout his music. From one poem to the next, you never know what the subject will be. He can be discussing the affects of war, the oil crisis in the country, death, and even displays humour throughout. This book is for any Tankian fan and is highly recommended.
