Book Reviews of Cool Yoga Tricks

Book Review: So good I actually bought it
Summary: 5 Stars

I took this out of the local library and found it so informative that I bought a copy. Don't let the title fool you, this isn't a bunch of ultra limber people posing - this is cool little tricks of the trade you can use to deepen your practice. Many of these techniques are taught by Iyengar instructors, and others as modifications, ways of opening the body, etc. Great little book at a veyr reasonable price.

Book Review: Solid Iyengar Yoga based book more like 4.5 stars than 4
Summary: 4 Stars

This book does a nice job of talking about and demonstrating many poses that people do in yoga classes and on yoga dvds. This book is broken up into sections (standing poses, seated poses, twisting poses, etc) and does a nice job with providing modifications for the poses. The advanced section towards the back of the book is also very good, and helps people who have a nice degree of flexibility (or who are looking for increased range of motion) to go a little deeper and try some tougher poses. My only problem with this book is that there were not enough seated poses. The book only covered Cobbler's Pose and Full Lotus Pose (I admit to being slightly bias because these are the poses I struggle the most with). While these are great poses to cover, adding a few more of the seated poses would made this book 5 stars for me. Otherwise, this is a great book, and I think anyone from any level or any style of yoga can get something out of this book.

Book Review: TOTALLY COOL!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is totally cool, delightful and delicious, just like yoga! I initially bought this book for my 23 year old daughter, thinking she could relate to the title. I quickly saw that the "tricks", clearly illustrated by people of different ages, various body types and backgrounds, are techniques for safely deepening our yoga practice. The author, Miriam Austin, credits her most influential teachers, including Ramanand Patel, who is well known for his ingenious use of yoga props. I'm adding this title to my list of recommended books for older students and their teachers!

Book Review: The best Yoga tool ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a great tool. I am working with many new and overweight students and the adjustments for the postures have been very useful. It has allowed these students to fully participate and feel like they CAN do yoga too.

Book Review: Very helpful
Summary: 5 Stars

This book caught my eye while browsing once in a bookstore. When it was recommended to me on Amazon, I jumped on it. I was very pleased with the information offered and techniques suggested. Not only does it offer the 'yoga tricks', which are better known as modifications and adjustments, it also leads you into the postures rather descriptively on the first page of each section. As a yoga teacher, I have utilized many of its suggestions with wonderful results. I would recommend it to teacher and student alike. It is a great resource!
