Book Review: Magnificent story
Summary: 5 Stars
The book is a memoir of the most prominent person in Polish resistance movement during WWII. Very well written, is almost like John Le Carr story, but it really hapened. Jan Nowak was one of creators of black propaganda, sabotage and deception department in Home Army intelligence service. He also created and run hugely succesful so called 'Action N' - morale damaging activities amongst german society. Some of the ideas those fellas had are simply funny, too bad from time to time someone had to pay for it with their own lives.
He was also the first resistance fighter to open the communication route from Warsaw to London - via Stockholm - hence the title. From Britain he was parachuted back to Poland, just a week before Warsaw Rising begun, so he endured all suffering this tragic battle brought upon Warsaw residents.
After war he became a director of Polish Section of Radio Free Europe, resistance fighter till the last day of his life. Sadly he died in 2004.
One of the best stories of wartime resistance, Jan Nowak exploits during the war simply put him into company of most heroic people of all time. And a very good read...
