Book Review: Cowboy Princess

Here, for possibly the first time we get a real inside glimpse into what it was like to live in the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans homestead. It is also the autobiography of Roy's eldest adopted daughter Cheryl. She shows a remarkable ability of being able to place the reader inside the family, to the extent that you actually "care" for the people involved. Yes, Roy and Dale were human as this book adequately describes, however it makes the reader realise that they much deserved the adulation that they received from the youngsters of the 40's and 50's. These are nice people and this book is a fine tribute to them. The book also affords the reader with excellent insights into the movie couples co-stars such as Gabby Hayes and of course "The Smartest Horse in the Movies": Trigger! In this cynical age it's rarther nice to read about a time when heroes deserved their titles; in this case, "The King of the Cowboys" and "The Queen of the West". Highly recommended.
