Book Reviews of Cry to HeavenBook Review: Is this the same Anne Rice? Summary: 5 Stars
Can this be the same Anne Rice who brought us into the sad yet exciting world of vampires? I loved every one of The Vampire Chronicles(including the newest: Blood and Gold). At first, I was skeptic to think that Anne Rice could write something as well as The Vampire Chronicles. But I have proven myself wrong in that this was one of the best novels I have ever read. The tale of young Marc Antonio Treschi is direct and to the point. It was also very descriptive and the reader can tell every little detail about the setting. Another Anne Rice classic.
Book Review: Its Anne We Love, Not the Vampires, Ghosts and Witches Summary: 5 Stars
Although this novel doesnt contain vain vampires, glamorous ghosts or well-favored witches, It is definitely filled with ANNE RICEness. The Title is more than fitting. We are taken on such an emotional trip, like that of her first novel, filled with that secret loud yearning anyone came relate to. She paints Italy with her magical brush , and overwhelms our mortal ears with the heavenly voices of her characters. The plot is divine , full of treachery, secrets, tragedy, mortal lust, and revenge. The whole journey is a long violin concerto.
Book Review: Just simply the greatest. Summary: 5 Stars
One of the best books ever written. How could anyone not like it?
Book Review: Living vicariously Summary: 4 Stars
I like this book. I first came across this book and author sometime in the 80's, but I wasn't then ready to surrender to this density of historical fiction. However, I never let go of the idea that someday I would start and finish this novel because it seemed appealing nonetheless. I am glad that I never let go. Reading this novel gave me the chance to experience a period of time and place that has long since been remove, and because of the mutilation that took place that's a good thing. The scenery, nevertheless, and perhaps still to this day is described so vividly that it was like I was walking and seeing through the eyes and embodiment of the main character Tonio the Venice streets of Italy. Splendid! It is definitely a place that I must attend some time in the future. For me it was like this pretty much throughout the entire book. Great escape. Finally, sometimes the author can embellish way too much, but in most of this novel it works. It is a juxtaposition that such a crime could take place on young boys and still result in a work of art that only words can now hope to describe. This was the entertainment of the times; the televison, the theatre, the rock concerts all rolled into one. I'm glad I went back to this book and that this time I was ready to surrender.
Book Review: Love/Hate Relationship With Anne Rice Summary: 2 Stars
The book "Cry To Heaven" I thought was beautifully set-up with stylistic prose and tons of eroticsm. I just love how Anne Rice adds a touch of sexuality to everything she writes; but I must admit, I could care less for her plots. "Cry To Heaven" lagged on so much and was sooooooo pointless, by the time I reached the end of the book, I felt like crying to heaven myself (in frustration). I can say the same for the other three novels I've read: "Interview With The Vampire", "The Vampire Lestat" & "The Witching Hour". Completely ... foolish; and you ask why I continue to read her books? Because she is the only author I know who does not repress sexuality in all it's glory. As for those of you who felt uncomfortable about the book's countless homoeroticsm, I only have one thing to say: Get over it!...
