Book Reviews of Culture Warrior

Book Review: Amusingly scary, hilariously wrong
Summary: 1 Stars

[...]

You don't have to get far into this book to realise it's more of the same from the man who's filled his own head with so much right-wing, neo-conservative nonsense that he might actually believe it himself. The fact that he believes the Founding Fathers would somehow favour a society in which religion plays a prominent role goes to show how utterly confused his understanding of his own country is; a mistake he makes within the first 3 pages.

This book was so funny that, if it were labelled a comedy book, I would give it five stars. However, the fact that it was published with the intent of sincerely informing people's opinions demands that I give it 1, and even that's not very well-deserved.

Basic summary: buy it for a good laugh, but prepare to be afraid, very afraid when you realise that someone out there is fighting for cultural values... and that man is Bill O'Reilly.

PS - How do you have a "Culture warrior"? That's like calling the book "Intellectual Barbarian".

Book Review: An Atlas of the Culture Wars
Summary: 3 Stars

"Culture Warrior" is Bill O'Reilly's assessment of the Culture Wars based on his years on the front lines. O'Reilly sees a war between traditionalists and the "secular-progressives" who want to change our country by driving traditional values from the American life. In this book he defines the issues, identifies the warriors on both sides and proposes courses of action for traditionalist warriors. He writes the way he talks, which is understandable and to the point. Although willing to take on those on the other side, he seems to try to make reasonable judgments rather than engaging in ad hominum attacks against opponents.

I consider myself to be a traditionalist culture warrior. Although I had heard Bill O'Reilly's name, I was not familiar with him before this book. I found it to be interesting and informative. Although O'Reilly finds the battlegrounds in somewhat different places than do I, that might reflect our different locations rather than divergent beliefs. When hearing the argument of one who has a financial interest in the outcome of a debate, there is always a suspicion that some of the issues may be framed more to generate ratings than to engage in useful exchange. Having been issued in 2007, it is now somewhat dated as some of the figures mentioned have moved on to other stations in life, such as George W. Bush, who is no longer president, Nancy Pelosi, who is no longer minority leader, and Al Franken, who is no longer a private clown. That said, I am glad that I read this book and fell better able to engage the secular-progressives in this crucial war over the future of our country and the world.

Book Review: An Important Book That Defines Our Current Civil War
Summary: 5 Stars

This book surprised me for two reasons. First, I bought the book thinking there might be a one or two chapters that could give me some new information about our current culture war. I didn't imagine that every chapter would not only be well chosen for it's importance but thoroughly reasoned as well. Don't get me wrong, I watch O'Reilly regularly and love his pugnacious style, but I didn't think it would translate well to book form. I was wrong. This book is rigorous and smart.

The second reason I liked this book is that it could have been a book that moderates his viewpoints for a mass audience. It doesn't. And this is good. O'Reilly says some important things that American's need to hear and he has proven he is absolutely committed to fighting for what he believes. His conveying his experiences dealing with the left-wing hate mob should be instructive and taken seriously. If his style is a bit bombastic, so what, Americans are asleep and need to be wakened.

What O'Reilly believes is right on the money. There IS a culture war. We ARE at war with radical Islam. The ACLU IS an enemy of the values that made this country great. The popular culture IS dominated by leftist thinking. The people who believe Bush bombed the World Trade Center ARE mentally ill. There IS a socialist conspiracy working 24/7 to turn us into Sweden (or Cuba). Hollywood HAS coarsened and polluted the culture. And finally there are those amongst us that want anarchy and will fight to the last dying breath against sanity, reason and good even if it means destroying everything.

I as someone who at times in my life has had original thoughts that have run contrary to public radio, environmental extremism, man hating feminism, the Democratic Party and Jesse Jackson's view on American race relations - I know what O'Reilly puts up with. He is telling the truth and is a brave man indeed.

I don't drink the Kool-Aid and I don't eat brownies baked in Berkeley.

For those out there that are leftist zombies or those that are contemplating becoming a leftist zombie - drink milk and listen to O'Reilly once a day. Eventually you'll start to feel better. Do it for the children.

Book Review: Awesome Fact Checking!
Summary: 5 Stars

People who don't like to hear the truth will not like this incredible book! What I enjoy about Bill's writing is his detail to Fact Check & when the research is done, you know he's right on! It is disturbing to read about some actors & what they've done & I've lost total respect for many of them. I think most people need to wake up & face facts, but a lot of them seem to believe otherwise. Excellent Read!

Book Review: Biased Garbage
Summary: 1 Stars

I have read it (I didn't buy it because that would have been a waste of hard earned money) but I thought that maybe Bill had something worth while to say, Boy was i wrong. This book will apeal to the right wing conservatives who believe in a time long past and cling to it for dear life. The whole book is a peace of self indulgent garbage where O'Reilly pretends that hes trying to save America from some fictional Left wing boogy man. This book is for hard core right wing conservatives only, anyone else with any common sense what so ever will find this book a waste of time and god forbid money.
