Book Reviews of Cut

Book Review: A great, short, but fulfilling read..
Summary: 4 Stars

I first read this book a couple years ago when a friend reccomended me to read it. At the time my best friend was a cutter and I thought through this book maybe I could find some answers as to why people cut and how to help them. Actually I found the book to be more story-telling than informative on the subject of cutting but from Callie(the main character)and my friends perspective, I discovered that cutting is something very deep and personal. I also found more importantly that it's something that you can overcome.

I decided to write this review because I was searching through my book shelf recently and discovered Cut. I read the book again in one sitting and I had the same pleased feeling as I had when I first read it. I think of my friend now, who is doing much better and hasn't cut for a while now. After she and I read through the book the first time she bought me my own copy.

Now go read it for yourself and share it with your friends :-)

Book Review: A journey to recovery
Summary: 4 Stars

Cut by Patricia McCormick is for ages 12 and up. Cut is a powerful and moving novel. McCormick did a very good job on describing the events that happend all throughout the book. Callie, a troubled teenager, has been faced with family problems. Her brother Sam has a terrible case of ashma, her mom is always worrying, and her dad is never around. To relase her pain Callie cuts herself. She is then sent to a clnic called Sea Pines also known as "Sick Minds" When she arrives she doesn't talk to anyone, she just keeps to herself. However, when she decides to cut herself at Sea Pines, all she feels is pain and then wants to get start talking. This is the first step to Callies road to recovery. However, there were many ups and downs during this road. The heart warming ending will have you wanting to read another book by the author.

While reading this book I could not put it down. I wanted to find out how the story would end and what would happen to Callie. Cut is a book that will open your mind to what real teens all over the country face everyday. All in all, the book had a great leason taught and as reader I waked away knowing my time reading this book was well spent.

Book Review: A little un-realistic
Summary: 3 Stars

I recently bought this book, probably due to my own problem with self mutilation. I have to say that even though I did like this book, the end didn't leave me with any real answers because to me it just didn't seem realistic. Anyone who shares this problem, and who reads this book may realize that you just cant stop cutting as easily as the author made it for Callie. Although, maybe it was just me and I was looking for answers in the wrong book. Anyhow, this was a fairly good book, especially for someone who would like to read about a girl who is also into cutting. I would reccommend this book to my fellow self mutilators, but not if you are looking for answers.Personally, although I identified with Callie in so many ways,I still felt empty at the end.

Book Review: A must read for all!
Summary: 5 Stars

Cut is a great book about Callie, a 15 year old girl who isn't talking to anybody. Not even her therapist at Sea Pines, which is a "residential treatment facility" where her parents sent her after discovering that she mysteriously cuts herself. Callie eventually finds her voice and confides in her therapist. She also starts talking to the other girls at Sea Pines who have issues of their own such as anorexia, bulimia, eating too much, and also cutting theirselves like Callie. As her treatment with her therapist progresses, the story to why she cuts herself starts starts to unfold. What happens next? I don't know. You'll have to read the read the book to find out.
The reason I like this book is because it keeps you wanting to read more. In the beginning it's not the best and kind of hard to understand, but once you get further into the book you never want to put it down. Each page you turn just keeps getting more exciting than the previous page. I hope you take the time to enjoy this book as much as I have.

Book Review: A poignant story of grief and guilt
Summary: 4 Stars

Callie is living at Sea Pines (known to the guests as Sick Minds), a residential facility for people with mental health problems. Most of the girls have problems with food (too much or too little), or problems saying no to drugs. Callie is different though, she cuts herself and watches herself bleed. She never cuts too deep, but enough that she has ended up in the home. Callie silently watches events around her until one day Amanda arrives - Amanda cuts herself too. Somewhere inside Callies mind is the reason that she hurts herself - why does she do it?

Callie is a normal teenager who has had one too many problems to deal with in the normal way - so she withdraws within herself, refusing to speak and cutting herself. Told mainly as an internal monologue to a therapist Callie leads the reader to the heart of her problem in flitting imagery and moments that at first leave you somewhat confused - but which open out eventually to lead you inside her mind and the source of her pain.

This is not an easy book to read. If you like the style of this book then try reading "Speak" and "Georgie".
