This is an amazing large size hardback book and is absolutely stunning. The main cover has a raised effect Dinosaur and you can feel the scales. The lettering is also in shiny gold. It is an excellent gift giving quality edition.
The contents are breathtaking. It has been beautifully illustrated in an old explorers large notebook style and there are many special touches. On the first page there is a letter which tells the reader this is a special handbook from years of study which is being handed to it's new owner. There are quality thick pages with fold out flaps, small notebooks, a flap opening egg and on the back page a huge quality doubled sided fold out poster. On one side are dinosaurs and on the other side are dinosaur footprints measured in childs' shoe measurements. A lovely practical touch.
The main contents are:
*Dinosaur discoveries and how fossils are made.
*A time chart (beautiful) giving the dates of dinosaurs plus illustrations.
*Dinosaur World - a huge Atlas map showing which dinosaurs lived where with a lovely touch of postcards from New York, London and Bejing showing dinosaurs from that area. It also shows the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous time periods.
*What is a Dinosaur? - showing an anotomical cross section of a dinosaur, skin, bone, tendons and all plus claws and teeth.
*Celebrity Dinosaurs like the T-Rex, Triceratops and Velociraptor which are well known. The drawings are beautifully illustrated in striking colours in a 'Victorian' style.
*Dinosaur Attack outlining carnivores.
*Dinosaur Defence illustrasting the armour and clever defense mechanisms of dinosaurs.
*Dinosaur Appearance.
*Wierd and wonderful dinosaurs like the odd looking Therizinosaurus.
*Monsters of the deep - sea based dinosaurs.
*Giants of the Skies.
*Dinosaurs disappear.
*Living Dinosaurs.
*Dinosaur data - info on 60 differnet dinosaurs in a top trumps card type illustrated display.
This book is for children, not adults, but I think any adult would appreciate the stunning design and content of this book.
Highly recommended.
