Book Review: Very disappointed

I have read every one of John Sandford's "Prey" books and some of his other books. This one didn't even come close to the quality of his other books. It was dull, confusing and a "slow read".Book Review: Virgil Flowers unplugged!

I have loved the Lucas Davenport series and was interested to this spinoff novel. In this novel its Virgil Flowers who takes center stage and the result is a page turning murder mystery thriller similar to the Davenport novels. Flowers is more down home than Davenport, and does not have Lucas's cutting edge wit, but he holds his own as a likable character. Kind of reminded Me of Jim Rockford from the old Rockford Files TV show in that he likes to stick his finger into the bee hive then stand to the side and see what swarms out. The plot revolves around Flowers being sent to the small town of Bluestem to investigate the murder of a wealthy member of the community who was not well liked by many because of his financial schemes that some say where frauds (he also had bedded more than a few of the town's women folk). The twists and turns are reminiscent of the best Lucas Davenport thriller, so fans of Davenport should not be afraid to give this one a try!

i've enjoyed the prey novels & when i saw the third book in this series on a 10 best list for 2009 i decided to check out the series with the first book.
i liked the setting and was intrigued by virgil flowers, part time outdoorsman writer.
but i was sorely dissappointed by the unveiling of the mystery and by the insult to the reader, me, in the sloppy editing...at one point a character opens a door late at night fearful of hearing bad news about one of his adult children. when the police arrive after he's killed they tell flowers the man was childless.
really!!! if you wonder how little a writer can respect his readers...check out john sanford's virgil flowers series and find out..

This has to be the worst book that Sanford has ever penned. I kept waiting for the
"knockout punch" and it never happened. A major waste of my hard earned dollars.
