Book Review: Cool book, great idea, some problems

I got this book to help with the planning of a long weekend getaway to the North Carolina mountains. Ending a nice hike with a dip in a mountain pool is a great day, so this idea for a book is a great one.
The problems lie in the fact that the book is pretty tough to use, unless you are very familiar with the area. The town of Morganton, NC is used as a reference location for several of the North Carolina spots. However, the author mistakenly calls it Morgantown, which at first made me discard those places, since the book also include West Virginia, where Morgantown is a relatively large place. I also believe that the index must be from an earlier version of the book, because none of the entries seem to match up with the pages that they are on.
But the most egregious error that I've seen is that there's no quick reference, larger scale map of the southeastern region that the book covers, or maps of the states it covers, or even the regions that those states are broken into. It's hard to envision where something is when you don't have a good reference point for it and the maps are already zoomed in significantly.
In spite of these shortcomings, the book is pretty good. They make choosing the spots you're interested in by ranking them in various categories such as ease to get to by trail, whether you can take kids or dogs, when you'll be able to stand the mountain water, whether to expect large crowds, and even whether you might be able to dip in the buff.
I hope to see a second version of this book where those mistakes are changed, and when that happens, I'd give it a five star review. As is, it is a neat addition to anyone who enjoys the outdoors in the Appalachians. Just realize that you're probably gonna need some other references to use this book effectively.
